If you're nervous about self-reliance, there's always the option of disallowing comments on all of your entries, so no one can reply. You might as well just have a written, notebook journal.
Since LiveJournals are inevitably public (unless you're retarded and just want to make your journal "look pretty,") I tend to regard my entries as ideas I'm willing to share and recieve feedback from other people on. The whole nature of having a LiveJournal is, to some extent, the craving of attention. You accept this by creating one in the first place. However, this is yet another variable you learn to control. Why do people say anything to eachother? "Attention" is simply another factor of communication.
before people got gross enough for online journals there was such a thing as a private journal/diary, used with the mighty pen and penicl... i've decided that's all i need to feel satisfied OR SOMETHING.
