I tried to go to that link, but for some reason it didn't work. So, instead I found a similar article and am so disgusted after reading just the first three or four comments in response to it that I wish I'd never read anything at all :/.

yeah that's pretty upsetting. Seems like the entire Advocate website is down suddenly. Bummer because I think this is amazing.

I get confused by people who comment like they do about god's creations. Take a look at the different ways people are born, without all the typical parts, extra parts . . . hell if transgender is so unnatural why do hermaphrodites exist?

With all the amazing and tragic ways people are born physically and mentally, these guys have an immensely narrow and naive view of what is "natural". Eat perservatives and foods with pesticides, keep Mcdonalds part of your balanced diet yet a couple wanting to share their love into a family any way possible (sounds typical of couples using fertility drugs and procedures) . . . this is considered yucky and unnatural.

Yea I can see how its upsetting and glad I don't get to deal with this aspect of human population often.

The original article is much better than this recalling of it.

Wow... That's really...

I'm surprised, it had never occurred to me that something like this was about to happen. I'd seen a picture earlier and didn't know what it was in reference to.

I have a few transgender friends including one old friend that I haven't seen since he was a boy... which means I'm really interested to see the woman he's grown into. I'm comfortable with it being an outward expression of something they've always felt, and I'm comfortable with it being a choice: I accept a lot of *other* decisions people make about themselves as well... so it's surprising to me that this man's run into so many problems with medical professionals that can't see past the unusual situation and to the basic fact that it's a human being that's having a baby.

I just saw a commercial for tonight's Oprah and it turns out that this couple is the feature of the episode. So, it looks like I'm going to have to suck it up, watch Oprah, and hope that she handles it with grace... not something she has done on episodes about other serious issues that are important to me. Which is not to say that I have seen many episodes of Oprah, but you get the point, lol.

I'm watching it now, thanks for the heads up.

Not too bad, Thomas seemed nervous and awkward at times but he's just a guy with a story, not a public figure.

I don't like how much emphasis is on Thomas' life before going through the change. Some transexuals are offended when people inquire too much about their "real" name because it's like a tool to be used to belittle who they are now because you know who they "really are".

ah, I don't know. People like Oprah and who watch Oprah are part of the public I don't like to concern myself with, the same type of people who wrote the ugly remarks in the article you linked.

It's also too bad that the transgender community aren't backing them up. Making this public can be good or bad . . . perhaps by making it public then it could make sure they get good representation. I worry that because he's off the hormones it could put his marriage status in jeopardy.

Again I think this is fascinating, hope all the best for them and their family.
