Chapter Three
Kyuhyun thought Ryeowook was being plain stupid. Because of one failed concert the smaller boy now refused to ascend any stage. If he could he would like to cancel the entire tour and go back to his studies.
When Kyuhyun heard him say that he just wanted to smack him on the head - maybe that would bring some sense to his mind!
But he didn't.
He sat down on a chair facing Ryeowook and he told him that everything was going to be okay, that his voice was beautiful, and that one slip didn't mean that he couldn't sing.
"One slip?!" Ryeowook had answered almost crying again. "How about FOUR slips?! I almost forgot the lyrics as well!"
Kyuhyun let Jungsu take over then.
"I've found you a back-up singer."
Wait, this wasn't what he was supposed to say, Kyuhyun thought, now angry with Jungsu. Wasn't he supposed to cheer him up? Ryeowook didn't need a back-up singer! He needed confidence!
"His name is Lee Sungmin and if you ever make a mistake again, you won't have to worry, because his voice will cover it up. Don't forget the lyrics though, he won't be able to help you in that."
Kyuhyun was certain that Ryeowook would oppose the idea, but the pretty boy seemed surprisingly relieved.
"I want to meet him as soon as I can."
Kyuhyun left the hotel room in anger, trying not to hit anyone on his way down the hallway.
“Excuse me,” a kind voice said after Kyuhyun had bumped into him. For just a moment Kyuhyun turned his head and stared at a strange boy. Cute, but even that though didn’t make Kyuhyun respond, he just kept walking.
“Can you please tell me where I might find Kim Ryeowook-shi?”
Oh dear God, no.. “Yes. Yeah, yeah, I can..” he sighed and turned around to face the stranger.
Ryeowook is mine, please don’t let this stranger take him away.
“He’s in room 1014. Let me take you there.” and without knowing the reason why, he was walking back to the room he had just left in a fit of anger, alongside this person, who could only be Lee Sungmin.
Ryeowook had right away been excited about Lee Sungmin. Somehow this Hyung had managed to make Kyuhyun’s best friend able to believe in himself (to some extend at least) and they had been able to continue their tour.
But Kyuhyun hated the way Sungmin would put a hand around the younger’s waist and he would lean close and take a selca together. And the way they would both pout when they were being told to stop being so sickenly cute by Leeteuk.
He also hated during concerts when Sungmin’s voice would not only support Ryeowook’s, but how they together sounded even more magical and angelic than Ryeowook had alone.
And he hated when they sat down together to write a new song and he hated the name they gave it; ‘Love U More’, it was ridiculous and misspelled and he didn’t even want to hear the lyrics.
Most of all though, he hated when they sang a duet and how jealous he would become while listening.
He told himself that he was jealous of their ability to sing and that he was angry with Sungmin for being in this duet because he had daydreamed several times how he would sing a duet with Ryeowook if his voice had not been damaged.
Sungmin himself wasn’t that bad though, Kyuhyun had to admit. He always said hi to Kyuhyun whenever he saw him, he seemed worried about his health and happiness and he was a generous and gentle Hyung. He asked questions Ryeowook had never thought to ask and Kyuhyun soon found himself confiding parts of his past to him, despite never having talked about it before, not even with his high school friends.
Kyuhyun’s hyung would listen and ask just the right questions and never once would he complain that Kyuhyun’s story was too sad - instead he would ask him to keep fighting.
“You will definitely find something you like just as much as singing, I’m sure of it.” He said one day.
“Hmpf. Not likely, Hyung. The only thing I like besides singing is Starcraft.” Kyuhyun told him, taking a sip of the wine in his right hand.
“It seems to me you like Ryeowook as well.”
Kyuhyun laughed and leaned close to Sungmin. “I like you too, Hyung! And that new guy, Zhoumi, who looks like a model and wants us to go to Taiwan. You’re all my friends now!”
Something in Sungmin’s eyes told Kyuhyun that he had misunderstood his words, but he didn’t know what else to say and their conversation ended awkwardly, only made even more awkward by Ryeowook entering the bar.
With a wide smile he walked up to the two of them, hugging Sungmin close from behind. ”Kyu~~ Minie~”
Sungmin returned Ryeowook’s smile. “We were just talking about you. We missed you.”
”I missed you too~! But Jungsu Hyung made me practice really hard.” He pouted and ordered a glass of wine, even though he already smelled like alcohol. He was almost as heavy a drinker as Kyuhyun was, so no one cared. It took a lot to get the Maknaes on Top drunk.
“Ryeowookie~ You love me, don’t you?” Sungmin said, eyeing Kyuhyun with a challenging smile.
“Of course I do, Hyung!” Ryeowook answered and snuggled close to him.
That was also the exact moment when Kyuhyun realized that it wasn’t their duet or their composing or singing he was jealous about.
