This morning I gave Ted a bath and brushed him out. Then with dad we drove out to the Petco in Dublin to meet a young Welshie named Grady who is up for adoption. Why is it that when I toss and turn unable to sleep my brain dwells on the hurtful parts of life? Why can't I lie there grinning at the ceiling over happy memories instead?

Heaven forbid I should be offended when instead of apologizing for hitting me with the tossed newspaper you indignantly accused that it couldn't have hurt very much. I find it difficult to express just how very thrilled I am with my neighbors' new guard dog. The arrhythmic, yet persistent, bursts of barking devoted to the hours between 1 and 3am the past few weeks have been the ideal lullaby. I think I'm going through a hermit stage. I'm pretty happy to just be alone and do alone things. Knit, read, bake, watch Colbert on Hulu. I go to the dog park and sit by myself on a table while my dog walks around by himself sniffing and mostly ignoring the other dogs. I'll go out and meet up with a friend and that's good. Today I sat down and just listened to music. No knitting, no poking around online. Just sat and listened with my feet up and my eyes closed. I haven't done that in a long time. It was excellent.

I am loving Kings. I'm not sure how long it will last if only because it's on a non-cable network and they mention God all the time. But whatever, it has me glued to my Hulu queue each Monday ( Read more... )
