just to be even more anal, on most productions i've worked on, it's actually the first assistant director who calls action, not the director.

i sort of did that this morning. there was a fly buzzing around that was REALLY annoying the hell out of me, and i said out loud, "what am i, a horse's eye?" and to me, early in the morning, i thought this was a pretty good joke, and i had a good laugh, and then i covered my head with a pillow and went back to sleep. i guess i'm ruining the privacy of the joke by telling you. also, i did not have a slate. but is that kind of what you mean?
