Ok. I haven't said much about Rachel Alexandra and the Preakness leading up to today, partly because I did not want to weigh in on the drama, because Whits is not fond of drama. Looking forward to your recap of today. Rachel Alexandra looked good, but Mine That Bird very nearly caught her. They're both the "real deal," I'd say.

Mine That Bird put in a hugely impressive run, but Rachel couldn't have been caught. Even Borel said she started to quicken on her own when she saw the Bird coming at her. She's a monster.

Yeah. Every time one of the boys surged behind her, she surged right back and kept the distance open. Awesome!

When you watch the replay, the only time they really look like they suddenly gain ground on her is in the last two or three jumps, but Calvin had already geared down on her at that point. She'd done her job already!! And on a track she didn't like.

I agree....and when Borel says a horse is the best horse he's ever been on-you have to respect the horse. She's a beauty, too.

But part of me still pulled for Mine That Bird because he's a plucky little thing and damned if he didn't almost pull it off. I'm glad that he at least got second and put to rest the 'one win wonder' talk.
