Blah, Oblivion

Well, Oblivion and mods and all running cool on the laptop. Except not cool. I thought I had one of the two dual processors shutting down at random, but now find that its 'downclocking on purpose' because its probably getting too warm. Need to get it a stand or something...

You seen what I use on my dual-core Toshiba? Old *wooden* TV tray (used for eating a "TV dinner", sitting on one's lap). The tray was one of a set of 4 found at a garage sale for a buck; homemade by some guy from a sheet of thin plywood and four small pieces of "quarter-round" trim. Glued and nailed together, rough edges smoothed and varnished. I gave the other 3 away, but it's something YOU could make in an hour or so. Notebook props up in back on one of the edge rails, giving the cooling fan area TOTALLY free (unblocked) air access. The side benefit is that it can sit in my lap for hours and not heat up my legs, and it's small enough and light enough to travel in my notebook case. When I bring the movie back, I'll toss it in the car so you can get a better look at it. Sitting a notebook computer "flat" on a table often blocks part or all of the cooling vents. This simple little rig eliminates the problem.
