ETH-Young Dubliners concert
Last night we went to see Enter the Haggis and the Young Dubliners at the Birchmere (which is apparently a big deal for bands to get invited to perform there). Folklife Festival
We went downtown to the folklife festival yesterday, depsite the crowds and a brief rain shower, it was fun. We only really went through the Wales section, the other two sections were Latin American music and African American culture, neither of which was particularly well displayed or interesting.

Trials in spinning
So yesterday I picked up a plain 1.1oz wooden hi-lo whorl spindle and a couple of ounces of merino wool white with grey, lavender and purple stripe named Thistle. This morning over coffee tommy and I drafted out over half the hank of wool and started spinning it. I've gotten about 2/3 of it spun now, and the spindle is almost full of a nice soft ( Read more... ) -
Sock update
Sock #1 is finished. I am sort of happy with the way it turned out, the ankle is a bit tight and its kind of difficult to get onto my foot. I think I need stretchy yarn for the next pair. I'll make up the second sock just so its a pair and I can wear them.

Sock
The sock was coming along okay until I got to the heel. It became glaringly obvious that my gauge is off. I have a skinnyish foot, so being a bit tight was okay on the foot part, but I have a big boney heel and thick ankles from my arthritis and when I went to turn the heel and start the ankle, I couldn't get it over my heel.
