okay, so.... one of my art requests on the pwkmeme got filled in an awesomely ambitious and inspiring way, reminding me that i need to get off my ass and start posting all my backlogged art~ so here goes!
aww, thanks so much! :D the last two are probably my favorite as well, but it took me long enough to get to the point where i could ink how i wanted! @_@
ahhhhhhhhh how can YOU be envious, do you have any idea how much you inspire ME everyday? @___@ seriously, your "confidence line" tutorial changed the way i looked at lines forever; i'm completely obsessed with linework and brushwork now, haha~
also, just wanted to say that i was really happy to see you're taking up speedpainting <3 i hope you never ever give up, because you're seriously one of the most talented people i know and i'm sure you'll have it down in no time! :)
Came over here from the g_s comm, I always love your art and wish you'd post over there more often! Your poses are so natural in all these pics and the lines are so nice :3 Whenever I draw characters their poses look very awkward, so I love seeing art which make characters look so lively. I especially love the first and last two pics <3 (The world always needs more regal Edgeworth :P)And definitely adding you for inspiration, keep up the great work!
wow, thanks so much! *___* i'm so glad you pointed that out, because for a time i was working SO hard on getting the poses to look natural, and now i'm happy that it (apparently) paid off~
i took a look at your art journal, and i actually thought your poses were quite good... it's obvious that you're willing to try lots of things and that's the biggest first step :) for me, i think the "big push" happened shortly after i started going to live figure drawing sessions, and caring a lot about confidence lines: http://halcyonjazz.livejournal.com/212010.html
Thanks a heap!schomperillaAugust 12 2009, 01:00:24 UTC
It definitely has paid off, they look great <3 Thanks so much for the links! (I'm kinda curious as to where you saw my art, because most of my sites have died except dA xD)
I've been meaning to go to life drawing sessions again, they're always great. I have heard of confidence lines and lines of actions, but I rely so heavily on only using reference images for my poses that it makes it hard to make those changes to my art D: I'm looking to change that though! It's just hard when you're used to relying on finding predetermined poses in order to make anything look ok xD; (Someone recently recognised that I'd used a specific reference pic for an illustration of a dandy I did, and that really put me off being lazy like this.)

oh, just saw the stuff you had on the most recent post in your lj~ you friended me, that's why i can see it? ^^;
and yeah, i know what it's like to be too reliant on refs, and it's a tough habit to break! @_@ but the trick is to just keep drawing from life AND memory, even if it's a temporary downgrade for now. once you've drawn hundreds of poses, you start to develop a "memory bank" of images in your head that you can just pull up at any time~ and everything will be so much easier then! :)
I always imagine Pearl as being 'blessed' by the genes that gave Mia her rack, and anytime she comes to town she glomps Apollo and says fake flirtatious things, thus leading to angsting from our favorite rock star and etc. Still need to write this fic.
I actually really like the Mia and Diego one. Sure, it doesn't look like an oil painting, but it has a very nice quality to it.

The one with Pearls and Trucy is especially adorable. :D And the last one with Trucy, Apollo and Nick is really cool too. ♥

Also, when you draw a figure, establish some VERY QUICK lines to get the "gesture" of the pose right away... these lines are called "lines of action," it's an animation term but everyone can benefit from it:

hope that helps! <3
