2009 in review

Jan 01, 2010 16:50

I did this meme after 2004, after 2005, after 2006, after 2007 and after 2008. Asking the same questions each year is a good way to show how my life has changed - or hasn't.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Attended a Presidential Inauguration and was in the midst of a crowd of millions ... who were all happy and polite.

Went to a game at Fenway Park (Red Sox won!).

Participated in a charity athletic event (AIDS walk).

Got highlights in my hair.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year's: Get out of debt (as much as possible) by saving more and spending less.

Eh, not really. I'm not going to officially make new resolutions. It's too depressing when I don't keep them. I just hope to make 2010 better.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My two sisters each had a second child.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
None.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
The chance to be in a show. (Prospects look grim at this point.)

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
September 24: Our 24-hour day in New York City with Aaron and Becca.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Generally doing well at work and getting promoted.

9. What was your biggest failure/disappointment?
Not getting to do any theatre. :(

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Bad cold. Nothing more really.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
iPhone. New TV and Rock Band. Also, makeup.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Adam, Becca, Aaron, my mom. Again for their love and support. Erin, our assistant manager at work, for being awesome in a hundred different ways.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Kept secret. If you know, you know.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage, natch.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Um, makeup. Drag ball. Zombie walk. Rock Band. Sushi. "Very rare" steak.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Probably something from Lady Gaga or Glee.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? sadder
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter
iii. richer or poorer? not sure

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Any creative pursuits.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Spending money on stuff I didn't need.

Worrying.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Hanging out by myself while Adam worked. Then going to sushi at Koto.

21. How did you spend New Year's?
Worked until almost 8. Then went to David's for a karaoke party and hanging out with some of our closest friends. It was a good time.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
No. (Unless you count falling in love with things rather than people.)

23. How many one-night stands?
None. I hate this question. It's so pointless for me.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
So You Think You Can Dance and Glee.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate? No. Have lost respect for? Unfortunately, yes.

26. What was the best book you read?
The Mallorean, perhaps. While I enjoyed all the books I read, no one stands out as a favorite or the best.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Rock Band. And, I'll also admit: I'm a fan of Lady Gaga.

I also think there was another musical discovery I wanted to put here, but I can't think of what it was.

28. What did you want and get?
A promotion at work.

29. What did you want and not get?
The chance to do theatre.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Up.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 32. I hung out with a few friends the weekend after my birthday. A couple weeks later, Adam, Aaron, Becca and I went to New York for a kind of belated birthday celebration trip.

32. What one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A role in a show, without a doubt.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Comfy and casual on my days off. Stylish and well made-up on my work days.

34. What kept you sane?
Going out to sushi with friends.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I'm not sure.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Gay marriage.

37. Whom did you miss?
My family.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Toby. :) Also, I really like Corey and Jackie who joined our team at work.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
Worry less. Strive more.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I'll come back to this one, I can't think of an answer now.
