Surreal is...

...shopping in VV and coming across a mom, grandma, and adorable 16 month old baby who charmed the socks off of me. We were chatting about the cute baby slippers she had on and where to find them then they told me they were from out of town staying at Ronald MacDonald house. The little girl has brain cancer they said. I responded with 'well ( Read more... )

wow. There was something in there that you really needed yesterday, then, i think.
surreal indeed.
on the emotional level, was there any kind of common denominator?

Probably the lesson was to be less internalized. To open up more to others. Less navel gazing methinks.

Also a give-take thing? Giving freely of myself and being rewarded with something selfish maybe?

Maybe not so odd... I think what the man was seeing is the beauty of your loving and caring nature, brought to the surface by compassion for a child and her family. It's one of the things I first noticed about you, along with your intellectual brilliance. It does enhance the physical beauty as well... 8)

We forget to acknowledge those good parts of ourselves a lot. I am glad the universe picked a moment to acknowledge that part of you.

SMOOSHY HUGGINGS!

Let's hope for good news for that family. I could not imagine dealing with a potentially life threatening illness with either of my children.

But I have to say any guy that calls me Ma'am and then asks me out on a date would make me think twice; getting called Ma'am, although a term of respect, makes me want to hurl!

I do agree with hesperide, what the man witnessed probably got him goosebumpy all over and he wanted to express it to you. A weird, sweet day for you!

He was a black man and not from here. My experience is they use those terms as pleasantries. You may have noticed that in our work. Besides, I didn;t need to think about, it was a no.

Also, he did not witness the contact between me and the family :)

okay that makes it even more surreal - the two events were totally unrelated. Yeah, in our work they say Ma'am alot, but it usually means they didn't get what I was saying and they are asking me to repeat or explain differently.

Still not a fan of being called Ma'am. I guess it's a crap shoot cuz I don't really like Miss or Mrs either. I guess Miss wins.

Hope you get to have further connect with that family. That sounded like a very special, moving encounter.

*hugs*
