I got to the lab this morning, walked into the tissue culture room - and all the alarms on all the incubators were going off...ugh. Someone forgot to order new CO2 tanks. Stupid LiveJournal. I ran an anti-malware program on my laptop and it deleted all my saved passwords; of course I couldn't remember my LJ password, and the third time that I got it wrong it locked me out for an hour. I never did remember it, and had to go in and reset it (two hours later ( Read more... ) -
Still alive
I've been away from the interwebs for a long time; work has been insanely busy, and I didn't get home before 6pm any day last week. I have a minion now - a rotation student who is working on a project that I got pulled for. I like working with students, but it means that not only do I have to do my own work, but I have to train her and supervise ( Read more... ) -

I had a long, frustrating day, and I was gearing up to write a long post about it - but then I saw on facebook that Internet Archive has 2400 MS-DOS games available to play online. I opened Oregon Trail, and now I'm completely happy. It's the little things in life.

Vamos hablar
One of my Spanish lesson verbs tonight was "caminar" - which triggered a flashback to high school Spanish class and this recording/song/thing our teacher had to teach us verb conjugations. "Caminar" was the sample; the next track had blanks for the underlined part so you could fill in any word:

I think the sentences that Duolingo puts together are grammatically correct, but thematically completely random. Two of the sentences I learned today were "La arana come pan" and "Soy un pinguino." Translated as, "The spider eats bread" (does it??) and "I am a penguin". Ahh talking penguin! -
Flea circus
These fleas are driving me more crazy than my cats. Every time I see one poke its little flea head up out of their fur, I make a grab for it - and those little bastards are fast! Then they burrow into the fur and hold on for dear life - so annoying. When I do manage to catch one, they're impossible to squish; I have to practically saw them in half ( Read more... )
