This is such a wonderfully sweet story. And what a memory to have. That's just... wow. I do envy you your experiences in Africa and the memories you have forever. Wonderful story.

My life hasn't always been easy but, at the same time, I HAVE had some amazing experiences not many ever get to try.

I am grateful.

A lovely story of childhood carefree days. I love all fruit. I'm sure I would like guava too!

This is lovely - I love how you show so much of the relationship and what was going on in the country just by how you two ate fruit. And I'm in South Africa right now, so the setting is especially interesting, too!

Have you lived in South Africa a long time? Where is your "home" country?

And yes, I was..I started out writing about food but, reading back over it, perhaps this story is more about Bebe than food. However, I think it was my friendship with her that made the fruit taste so good:)

Finally catching up :) Home is the USA, but I live on the road, and my boyfriend is in Cape Town, so I get there a couple times a year. Where are you? Still in Africa?

I don't know why I hate papaya so much but I do. And my mom tried to make me eat a slice every morning. Oh how I dreaded it! It was so disgusting (to me)

I know some people like papaya but I still don't. I know it's healthy but I can't seem to like it.

Lovely story and I am with you, fruit, especially tropical fruit is heaven.
Beautifully told, in honour of a friendship.

I have had a few similar lives to yours, born in UK went to New Zealand, back to England, then came to Australia, went to Menorca several times, Paris, Ibiza, (think I could settle there sometimes). But the economy is on a serious slide. Have been in Australia 25 years now. If we were't old and poor, would keep traveling.

I haven't traveled overseas in years (due to lack of money) myself. But I want to again someday!

You've had a very interesting life. Have you written much about these experiences? If so, is it in your journal?

If not, I hope you will for future Idol entries maybe?:)
