Well, during the winter the canal is drained. Right beside the locks at Hog's Back, it is *so* drained that you can walk right across in the winter. Yesterday, what with the freezing rain that turned to normal rain and coated everything in ice and water, I slid and fell down the hill (scratched my hands up and filled my shirt with snow!) that I normally take down into the canal where I cross. Today, I decided it might be safer not to go down that section, as it was still all treacherously slippery, so I went a little further north, tried to cross there.
As I was crossing, I made certain that the ice was strong enough to support me before putting my weight on it, and made my way towards what I knew to be and island (when the canal is drained, the river forks a little here and goes to either side of this section). I stood there for a few seconds, planning out my next path, and just as I started to walk, the island underneath my right foot TURNED OUT NOT TO BE A FUCKING ISLAND. So in I went. Nearly up to my hip in nasty black canal

At first I was thinking you fell into the summer-version of the canal and was like "omg how did he get out?" Fun.

I fell and made a flop,
Then i got the mop."
I wrote that in grade two and now I found it again, yay for having are waterways turned into glop.
Don't feel too bad, it always could have been worse, like someone caught it on camera and put it on the internet.
