There's been one too many unexpected waves in the past few weeks. Such that when the comm chimes at him, Simon's first reaction is something along the lines of oh god, what now.

The more he thinks about the situation, the more uneasy it makes him. Especially about not having insisted on telling Kaylee everything before she went to visit Peter.
He is not going to go in after her. He'll wait until she comes back, and tell her everything then.
In the meantime, there are dishes that need washing.

Simon's met at the port by a man he recognizes as one of his father's, and is whisked through the various security procedures and to the entry gate with intimidating professional swiftness. They reason for the swiftness becomes apparent once he's on board; they're very close to being cleared for liftoff
