totally. i read in the interview with her in the current Wire mag that pretty much every object pictured there is symbolic of either lyrics from the album or themes regarding this whole ancient mythology tale of the island of Ys that she's so obsessed with. like the poppies in her hair are a drug reference, the wheat symbolises fertility, she sings about the sickle in one song, etc. i was at greville records today and they had a big display on polystyrene of the album cover that they were about to put up and i almost made warwick an offer to have it after they were done with it. it was massive, would be so kickass to have at home.
yeah, i shouldn't throw money away on some crappy styrene though. i know the guy who made it though (he used to do all the displays for gaslight) and i'm thinking of asking him to just make me a blockmounted version of it instead. he made me one of the front cover of the last elliott smith album cover and it's awesome, he's the king.
yes! it must be purchased if you love it. industry loser gossip has lead many to believe that Ys' expensive recording process has sucked away most of Drag City's money. Drag City is an amazing label and with a ridiculously awesome current and past roster and deserves to stay afloat even just for making Ys happen. Plus I'm sure it costs Joanna a lot of money to lug around that massive fucken harp.
