And as the weeks go by, it simply becomes colder and colder. This won't do; the leaves are changing on the trees as well. I've managed to find some heavier clothes for myself, but there are no guarantees if it begins to snow. I worry very much for what may befall us all these next few months

That's something new I haven't thought of or heard before in this riddle, that the mailman is meant to be delivering mail as well. Of course, it's very much assumed that a mailman not only gets the mail, but I had never thought of that.
