There's something really beautiful about all the atmospheres you created in the story. The feel of Blaine's summer with his grandfather and the way everything between Blaine and his parents, especially his dad, feels so stilted, contrasted with the warm softness of his moments with Kurt, were really well done. I felt so bad for younger Blaine, feeling so emotionally neglected because no one would really talk about what had happened and how things had changed for him beyond just a broken arm. But I especially liked that none of it felt malicious, his father seemed to be trying, but they were just such different people that it felt like neglect because they weren't communicating the same way. And it still makes me feel bad for Blaine, but it makes it feel realistic, and like it could change for the better or they get to a place where they understand each other more.

I'm so happy it worked for you, because pretty much that is what I was going for in the story. I do think Blaine's relationship with his family changes for the better at some point, yes, once they realise they're just speaking different languages and seek to get to common ground. But pretty much I was just so tired of the ZOMG BLAINE'S PARENTS ARE ABUSIVE trope that I wanted to see if I could feasibly get the same end result - a kid who thinks his parents don't like him because he's gay - in a completely different way.

I almost quit reading in a couple of places because the angst/awkward family relations were getting to me and it was all feeling a little bleak, but I'm glad I stuck through; the entire ending with Kurt was a beautiful contrast. =)

The line where Blaine is thinking that he is capable of FEELING in a way his dad and grandpa can't is just--GAAAAH. THAT, I really liked--it's something I've felt myself.

Nicely done. =)

Aw, thank you very much - I think I must be as emotionally inept as Blaine's family, because I never thought the story would come across as so bleak, but I'm really glad you found sticking with it to be worth your while!

It may be a bit of a touchy thing with me, personally--being surrounded by people that are supposed to understand you and feeling like they don't know you at all. In any case it just makes Kurt's way of getting into every nook and cranny of Blaine's life all the more beautiful. =)

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to read/review this earlier, but it's been crazy.

I really, really like how you ended up ending it. I love Blaine's dad asking Kurt to help them with the car. It really drives home what his dad was really trying to do with the car, and it's like this not-so-neon sign that yeah, his dad's just been handed this golden opportunity and he takes it. And Blaine gets it without it turning his life upside down.

This was such a wonderful story- I'm really glad to have gotten the sneak peek by betaing! Lovely job!

No worries at all! I myself have a huge backlog of things to go through, although now that we're getting close to the season premiere I've been staying off tumblr for fear of spoilers, so my time may be my own again!

I'm so happy you liked the way the ending resolved itself - it was wholly on the basis of your advice that I decided to go down this path and it worked so very well, once I started. It eased my concerns about the story being too subtle, but without completely ruining the subtlety in my first place, so I am so so glad it worked for you too!

Thank you for the betaing - it wouldn't have made it to this state without your advice!
