I think that the important part of celebrations is the being together. Having a good time, spending time with... Friends, family, whoever it is that you're celebrating with.
I don't know if that really answers your question.
Hey, who doesn't love a good party? And if it comes with sparkly lights and decorated trees and all kinds of cookies and booze, so much the better. [ That may have been... somewhat inappropriate while talking to someone under the legal drinking age. Does May care? ...not so much, no. ] Or cake. Cake is always good too.
[ For some reason, a vicious attack pillow takes the opportunity to fly at Buffy's head when she turns her back to leave the room. Damn those pillows. Sorry, Buffy, May will have to train them better. ]
[ there's an indignant squeak. A pause as she leaves the room. And then, after removing all potentially-breakable accessories, she comes back in wielding a pillow, running at May with a battle cry!
Oh, for Christmas? Yeah, I mean, if Jesus is an important part of the celebration to you, then that's one thing, but if you're not really religious, or if you have a different religion, it's about your friends, and giving them things that you think will make them smile.
I had a friend once say that she thought part of the reason the huge gift-giving holiday was in the middle of winter was because people needed something to warm their hearts when the weather outside was so cold. I mean, that doesn't really count here, but the point stands. I think Christmas is more about bringing joy and happiness to your loved ones than about Jesus.
video; eh, she's used to it. Her best friends are staunch atheists.notthatbuffyDecember 4 2011, 23:57:07 UTC
[ this is slightly sheepish ] Sorry, sometimes I just get started and can't bring the rambletrain to a full and complete stop for everyone to get off. Just blow right past the station!
I don't know if that really answers your question.

[ ...is May talking to her housemate over the network when she's right in the next room? Why yes. Yes she is. ]
