Screened in porch....

So I am wanting to get our screened porch more usable now that we fixed the broken screen that was the perfect size for a cat to squeeze out  (hmmmm how did that happen?).  Problem is that I want the breezes and outside air w/o mosquitoes that the screens provide, however there is no overhang from the roof, the screens are floor to ceiling, and the ( Read more... )

Our "screened" porch has a similar problem. We have glass inserts OR screen inserts. One or the other. So we can't just close the windows if its gonna rain. So our solution has been to just keep the glass inserts in (to save the furniture) and let it get hot in there. But, before we decided on that, we bought fake plastic bamboo looking roll-up shades. They look pretty good, are rain/mildew resistant, and kept out the rain, plus giving us some privacy.

Seems silly to have a room you can use for the 1 month the weather is warm enough you don't freeze, but you don't bake... I had thought of those roll up shades, but I figured w/ all the stick-y surface area they would be mildew magnets. Good thing to consider...... Thanks!

I think outdoor furniture is the way to go. Some things have really pretty nice water resistant cushions, too, so you wouldn't have to worry about incoming rain except with the hardest of storms blowing in.

As for finding it without dropping a huge load of cash for limited use items...What about Craigslist? Yard sales? Those are good places to find used furniture to try out before committing to anything more expensive or serious.... Times like now people are getting out their summer furniture and things and saying, "Bah! I want new deck/patio stuff!" Their house cleaning could be your gain!

I have no solutions, but the phrase "purgatorial in comfort" made me laugh out loud. Consider it stolen.

You should be able to buy outdoor canvas at fabric shops. That would make decent curtains. Might be pricey, though, especially for the length you want ( ... )
