So on the way home from work today I was treated to an interesting "conversation" between my 5 yr old and her almost (gasp!) 3 yr old sister:

So last night Katherine asked to color.  She sat down with her marker and drew a nice circle, which isn't too new.  Then she drew 2 straight lines under it...  "hmmmm" I thought "is that a person?"  She then made two careful dots in the upper third of her circle, and a little circle right below them.  And then another circle under that.  She looked ( Read more... )

So folks, how do you teach someone to read?  I don't remember the learning process for myself, I remember reading these little yellow bound thin books in Kindergarten in the "I see spot" type.  But as to how I got there I don't know, and how I get my 4 yr old to I don't know either.  I mean we've always read to her, and she knows all her letters ( Read more... )

So this last weekend we went down to Augusta, GA to see our 8 yr old nephew take his black belt test in Tae Kwon Do.  Charlotte loved it,  so much that  I had to have a stern discussion that yes her elbow was strong but that she can not break boards with it.  She also kept referring to it as Tai Chi or Kung Fu, much to Andrew's dismay ( Read more... )
