It will soon be more remarkable to find an Orkney boy at home, rather than away from it. Gareth has been away since seeing Sagramore (and other things) at the Mansion, and now returns. He looks, it may be noted, rather less wild than Gaheris tends to after reemerging from wherever it is Lot's sons go to hide. He is heading in the general direction

Percy's out in the woods, bringing back clay from the stream to try and beat a chimney back in place: the house's proper one is mostly killed from past springs, and they've been using a woodstove recently. A chimney seems more profitable, however, and that's why he's out with an enormous basin full of wet river clay. He hails Gareth immediately.

"You okay?"

"Uh-huh. How're you?"

Cimorene pokes her head out the window. "Who is it? Oh - hello Gareth. I'll put some more on for dinner."

"You don't have to," he says quickly. "I should go home."
