Busy and Stir Crazy
I'm caught in the unpleasant position of waiting for time to speed up and simultaneously wishing it would slow down. Working on my critical thesis while waiting for Mass Effect 3 is a painful experience.

still fine tuning
I got a hauppauge HD PVR a little while back. I'm still trying to fine tune my recording/conversion settings so that long recordings don't go all pixelated in the latter sections. I'm getting closer.

Well isn't that helpful
The very same quality that makes the blowdart snipers in Dark Souls so very dangerous also makes them self-destruct. I realized this after two snipers gave up the ghost after firing darts at me for a few minutes. I have all the time in the world, while it seems that they do not. Obligations
I've been running around some more in Skyrim, and came across a new little adventurer (okay, he's not really little, he's an adult, but he just started adventuring), who I helped get started. He needed some seed money for armor before his dad would let him leave the farm. I felt a bit of an obligation to hire him on as a merc since I'm the one ( Read more... ) -
Ahh, progress
Re-played, for the third time, that buggy unlootable quest. This time I was able to loot the body, and do the remaining two sections. Got a nice bow upgrade, too. That dragon is still flying in reverse, but I'll just avoid that area for now ( Read more... ) -
When single player doesn't mean solo
The longer I play Skyrim, the more I realize I can't do everything in it alone. This is troubling, mainly because I am terrible at not hitting my buddy in close quarters combat. Also, as a quiet, sneaky type my most logical choice in pals would be a big, crunchy type. But many of the big, crunchy types make so much noise that I get spotted too, ( Read more... ) -
I have a cabinet now
I was given a cabinet for my action figures as an early giftmas present. It is now time to start setting up scenes. I also have tacky wax, so they should be more stable than the window sill was. And there are some additions to the company- Old Snake, Thane, and, coming in April, Miranda, Mordin, Legion and Garrus.

Controversial subjects
My next essay is on the way in which genre allows writers to "safely" tackle controversial subjects through simplification of the subject, universalizing it, and analyzing it. Simplification comes through the removal of real world context, such as historic precedent, political complications, etc. Universality comes through use of "others" to avoid ( Read more... )
