I'm not really sure why, but I was lying in bed, unable to sleep, and the grocer of all people started talking to me. I knew there was no way Dean wouldn't get caught taking that many samples, but the grocer told me that he wanted to be a nice guy. He's very charitable and a really good guy in the community. And then the fic just started writing itself, and I had to get up and write it. I just had to. I didn't really think about roller coaster or tension, it just wrote itself.
A lot of this story was inspired by my own childhood. This is the Dean I can really relate to. When you mentioned the plot bunny, I just knew it would be something I could easily write. And I'm glad that I managed to hit on a few things that reminded you of your own childhood too.
for Dean not only think he’d get a spanking, but that he deserved one for doing things that made Sammy happy... So the mentally skewed Dean you know I love and so shows how he ( ... )

The grocer didn’t steer you wrong. He was so perfect for highlighting Dean’s mistrust of authority...of anyone for that matter and what I really loved about him was that he seemed so real - I feel like I’ve met that guy. He was a very charitable fellow but not over the top cuddly nice. Once he figured out what was going on he respected Dean’s boundaries without pushing for info - just gave with no questions asked.
Your in tune-ness with it came through so well and timeframe wise, that’s just one more thing I love about Supernatural - age wise I fall in between the two boys so basically any reference from their childhood is one I also remember from mine and in a less extreme way there is just so much about their lives that is relatable.
It's clear to me in the show that he considers himself worthless and never, ever good enough no matter what he does. I really think he believes he ( ... )

Of course Dean does still have to explain to John where the box came from. I wonder what his reaction will be.

I'm also loving the various 90's pop culture references. I saw 'Oliver and Company' in the theater too. :) Though my parents didn't buy us Crunch berries more than maybe once. Not enough nutritional value. Plus, that stuff cut up the inside of my mouth, if I remember correctly.
I was as indignant as Dean when the grocer grabbed him. They're free! Not fair! Hehe. But it was awesome that the grocer recognized that Dean was desperate. Sammy must have thought Dean could do anything after coming back with a haul like that!
Very, very cute. Thanks for writing it and sharing with us.
