Thank you so much for your kind comment. I think this really was a very sad, painful time for everyone involved. I do also agree that John did his best. He loves the boys more than anything. But he's not always the best judge of what they need. Even as an adult, Dean has a don't talk about it mentality, and I'm sure he learned that early and picked up on it from John. I don't think it's that John wouldn't want to know about Dean's pain, but rather in hiding his own pain about Mary's death, Dean learned from observing and kept his own pain inside too. It would lead to some misunderstandings, even though everyone loves each other, it doesn't mean they never hurt each other.

Your comment really made my day. Getting into the headspace of a five year old was amazingly really fun. So glad to know you enjoyed it. Thanks!

That made my lip wobble, which takes some doing! Lovely writing from mini Dean's point of view and v touching how he put Sammy first even at such a young age. Well done! Xxx

Thanks. I got emotional myself writing it. But I think understanding this time in his life is important to understanding Dean. My favorite part of the story was his love, concern, and closeness with baby Sammy. Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

Awwwww, Poor little Dean, not really knowing why he wa being spanked, but not willing to say anything to make his Dady mad. I can imagine things being pretty much like that at first with John still hurting over Mary's death. Tears filled my eyes every time I read that Dean was afraid his Daddy wouldn't come back home.

I struggled a lot with the sadness of this fic, but in the end I think I did get it accurate. Even as an adult, Dean care barely talk about Mary. That had to have come from somewhere. Also, I know that when little children are suddenly in a different living situation, even if it's a good one, they get really bad fear of abandonment issues. Dean seems to still have these as an adult, and I'm sure it started very young. I think if Dean had been able to talk to John about what was happening, John would have acted a lot differently, and would have reassured Dean. But I also think that any time the Mary word came up, John freaked out and went all quiet, and Dean just learned to not talk about her, to close up and keep things inside. Even though this is a wee wee!Dean piece, I think it's a lot about how he ended up the adult we see in the show. Anyway, thanks so much for commenting. I'm glad it rang true for you and got an emotional response. Thanks for reading!

Aw, poor Winchester babies. I loved Dean being so attentive to Sam; knowing about how to heat up his bottle and knowing that Sam wasn't a fussy and bad baby. I liked him getting Sam away from the broken figurine too and of course not letting his little brother get in trouble, and John hanging that paddle up in the garage, brought back some memories. My mom had a ping pong paddle she used on my brother and I, and I remember her hanging it up in the kitchen above a counter where the telephone was. I was always so embarassed when we had people over or my friends spotted it immediately and asked why it was there. Geez, very uncomfortable. Anyway, nice job.

Thanks for reading and commenting. The connection so very early between Sam and Dean was one of my favorite parts of this fic. And I do think that five year old Dean would know better how to take care of Sammy than some stranger that didn't even like kids.

The paddle hanging in the garage just seemed a very John thing to do to me, especially since we know he worked on cars. Good to know you immediately understood the reference.
