Thanks for the comment, honey! Underoos, well they just insisted on being in the story. Dean's five, it's 1984, I just had to.

Oh, and you're not the only one that wants to smack the babysitter. Razzie made me agree to kill her! But really she was just doing John a favor and isn't good with kids. She was trying to stop them from hurting themselves, but she doesn't really have a clue how to actually take care of kids. Oh well, I'm sure the boys did get some better sitters. Like Bobby. I love writing the boys staying with Bobby.

Owwie!! You made me cry with that one! The characterization was just so perfect on all three of them! I could so see this happening even down to Sam appearing from an outsider's POV to be a difficult baby ( ... )

Thank you SO much for your very detailed comment. I love long comments like this! You managed to touch on all of the things that I was trying for in this fic, and that just makes me so so so happy as an author. Hearing that my characterization is right is just about the biggest compliment you could give me ( ... )

This is such a heartbreaking and painfully accurate characterisation of little Dean. He almost reminds me of my godson's younger brother, a child who was always busy looking out for others even at a very young age. And this is exactly what Dean does in here ( ... )

Thank you so much for your praise of my characterization. That's always what I'm going for beyond anything else.

You're right, John would not have paddled Dean if Dean had told him the truth about what had happened, but as you noticed, I wanted to demonstrate how their not talking was affecting things even this early. I think that John was really hurting a lot during this time too, and talking about Mary was just too hard for him. Dean picked up on that and learned to not talk too. And the pattern begins.

Thanks so much for picking up on all of this. Glad you read and enjoyed the fic.

I don't even know these characters and i cried! aerdnawrites January 26 2011, 02:54:49 UTC
My heart goes out to these kids! Here's the weird thing: I have never seen Supernatural. I've gotten the jist of the story from fanfic (I will watch the show soon). And even then, this little boy's dilemma and his love for his baby brother just breaks me up. I also feel badly for John, trying to deal with grief and be a good Dad and protect his boys. Even if he seems to go about it in a harsh way.

You know I think sometimes the fandom and fanfiction can be better than the actual show. That's definitely the case for me with Supernatural. The background before the show even starts is the most interesting time, and you don't really need to know much about the show to relate to that. I've found that true for some other fandoms as well. Anyway, I'm really glad to hear my story moved you.

When you first wrote this I read it but there was too much angst at the time for me to comment. I just saw it rec'd somewhere and remembered I thought it was really good so came back for another read. Still a great fic on the second time around. Great job on Dean's point of view and on his love and protection of Sammy. And the angst....oh the angst. Superbly written!
