Reading List

Please list one book you think everyone should read. A short reason why would be good, too. I want to make my own "required reading" list. If you can't think of just one, two is permissable. When I come up with mine, it will be in a future post.

&#$8220The Name of the Rose” by Umberto Eco. It's a murder mystery set in a medieval monastery that includes a visit from the Inquisition. The whodunit in this one is ridiculous.

“The Colony of Unrequited Dreams” by Wayne Johnston. It's a fictionalized version of Newfoundland becoming a part of Canada and the man behind it. Yeah, sounds boring. Throw in unfulfilled (love) lives and vivid, drunken characters and it's a most awesome almost history text.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. it's like the movie, but awesomer. and it'll change your life, i swear. it's amazing and really makes you think about what's actually important in your life, but in a way that nothing else ever has before.

oh and Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. just a really good sci-fi novel. even if you're not a sci-fi person at all, you'll be hooked and wanna read 'em all.

Just, for the sake of record keeping, I am going to respond to some of the suggestions. Read, and loved!

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynn Jones, because it's one of the most imaginative and enjoyable fantasies I've read in a long time. In fact, just about anything by Diana Wynn Jones gets my vote.

Are we sticking to just fiction? Or can I say "The Velocity of Honey, and more science of everyday life" by Jay Ingram. It's a great book explaining some of things you probably never thought about. Example: There is a miniature model of the Earth's weather system on the top of your cup of coffee. Really a great book.
