[ Franziska doesn't even look like she wants to be here. Her clothes are crumpled, as if she slept in them last night, and most of her make-up's worn off by now, leaving her face surprisingly bare. Not to mention the horrible bags under her eyes, created by a night's full of worry and pervasive beeping noises in her head.

She's not even going to bother saying hello, instead opting to just sit opposite him, eyes glaring, but mouth turned down in disappointment. ]

Have you considered why that's all anybody wants to talk about? Do you even understand the gravity of what you have done?

I know why, all right, I know perfectly well why, but that doesn't mean that I want to. I've spoken at great length, and if you want I'll see if they'll sell you a recording of it later for your--purposes.

[He folds his arms over his chest and leans sullenly back in his chair.]

Something else.

I can't think about anything else.

Yes, you can, you-- The weather, what you ate for breakfast, how many cats you saw today--anything, any mundane damn thing.

[There's a definite layer of sarcasm audible in her voice now.]

While I was walking outside on Sunday afternoon, I saw a black cat pass underneath an open ladder over the shards of a broken mirror. A bad omen, do you think?

I don't believe in bad omens. Perhaps if you'd seen a black dog, that would be one thing.

Just--try, would you, give it a go. Conversation. What else is there to say about the rest of it, anyway; nothing that hasn't already been said.

[There's a short, harsh laugh.]

I was starting a conversation, if you were not so self-centered to have not realised. How about continuing it? 'Where were you going on Sunday afternoon, Franziska?' I do believe it is you who is fixating unnecessarily on your current circumstances.

I'm not--

[He takes a sharp, irritated breath, and pushes his hand through his hair.] I'm not, I'm trying--

[A pause, and he glares at his hands.] Where were you going.

To meet a friend for a game of chess. [Was friend really the right word to describe Ciel Phantomhive? Would Sirius pick up on her usage of the word? Ah, it didn't matter. She tries to keep her voice calm now, no idea why she's playing along with this. Maybe she wants the distraction as much as he does.]

Do you play?

atrumcanis November 21 2010, 08:17:11 UTC
I've-- played, yeah. Ours is a bit different, but it's largely the same, I expect.

[A pause.] Which friend?

[The corners of her mouth lift slightly at that query, but she ignores it.]

What's different about it?

The chess pieces knock each other about. Which friend?

dancing_pierrot November 21 2010, 08:43:16 UTC
What, the pieces themselves?

atrumcanis November 21 2010, 14:14:03 UTC
Yes, the pieces themselves, that's what I said. "Queen takes pawn" and she knocks him straight off the board. Very violent, very brilliant.

Are you avoiding the question so as to be vexing?

So they move independently?

[Yes.]
