Bake Sale: Open, prose/action is fine. vw_coyote June 9 2011, 16:49:41 UTC
[Mercy had been baking off and on since she'd volunteered. It helped that she didn't have to supply anyone with brownies right now, save herself, Anna, Harry and Peter. Moving in the middle of the baking hadn't helped, but she hadn't let that stop her.

She'd even taken a day off work, and now was working the bakesale. Most of her peppermint double fudge brownies were gone - unsurprisingly. Sitting in her chair, Mercy was reading a book on old Fae legends waiting for the next customer.]

[Rochelle had showed up and decided, what the hell? She'd help out and be a productive member of society. She came up to Mercy, and offered a wave to get her attention.]

Long time no see.

Rochelle!

[She'd thought she'd recognized that scent. In the morass of people, though, she hadn't been sure.]

come to try the profits?

[Mercy holds up a plate of brownies that obviously weren't for sale and, just as obviously, had been more than they were now.]

[Rochelle grinned.]

Hey! What's up?

[She looked down at the plate.]

You know it. I'm guessing those ones aren't for sale.

[Mercy laughs and puts down her book finally.]

Absolutely not. These are to keep me from fading away as all the good stuff goes.

[Mercy offers Rochelle the plate.]

Peppermint double fudge. Give a try. How've you been?

Then hell yes I'll give them a try. [That grin stayed as Rochelle took one and took a bite into it.] Good, busy. And these are damn good, by the way.

Thanks.

They're certainly enough to pass the time. So tell me about your busy, since mine is pretty humdrum. Teaching a new kid at the garage, moved, all that sort of stuff.

Any chance I could help out and buy some?

[She snorted.]

I wish my busy was good enough to talk about, it was work busy. Who do you got working at your garage now?

[A laugh and a wave at the table.]

Take your pick, Rochelle. Not like I'll stop you. There's strawberry and rhubarb pie, but I didn't make that. I made the peach pies, though, and most of the brownies, though all the peppermint ones are gone.

[She got up to smile at a customer and sell one of the pies before sitting back down.]

Boy by the name of Kurt. He just came in when the Core started working again.

Damn. I like these... [She shrugged.] You made any other brownies?

[Rochelle leaned against the wall and waited 'til she was done.]

Kurt? [She thought to see if she remembered the name. When she didn't, she shook her head.] Never heard of him. Nobody was kidding when they said the Core repened the floodgates, though.

There's double fudge and dark chocolate walnut left.

[Mercy likes her brownies, okay?]

Yeah, he's very new. Poor guy. Knows his way around basic repairs though. Which is a help.

[Oooh.]

Mercy, you had me at 'double fudge'. How much?

No shit... poor everybody. But Zoey came back. She's from my 'world'--doesn't remember a thing about here, though. [Shrug.] Is he settling in?

Fifteen for the bag, or twenty for the plate. [The plates had more, obviously.]

No one from my world has shown up. I keep expecting... OW! [Mercy sighs and moves the stick so it's out of the way.] I keep expecting a few of my neighbors to show up. He seems to be handling the garage alright.

I'd get a plate, but I'm carrying this home. I'll take a bah.

You okay? [buuuh-link.] Your neighbors, huh? I think most of my neighbors are dead by now. ... Uh, undead.

[Mercy held up the stick that had hit her.]

Just this thing.

Yeah my neighbors. A few would be nice to have around. A couple I could do without, though.
