Sector 4 midmorning? GROCERY STORE southernreaper July 4 2011, 15:37:22 UTC
Fourth of July. They may be in Canada, but if he had anything to say about it, they were going to have a cook out, and grilled food, and all those other things. They were Americans, and they were gonna act like 'em ( ... )

YAY GROCERY TIME 8Dd redpeacock July 5 2011, 13:17:42 UTC
Of course, Genesis had no idea that his birthday had anything to do with any real festivities in this world. It amused him somewhat, though, to see perhaps a few shopping carts pass by with people stocking up what seemed to be festival food of some sort.

Mostly frozen goods.

It made him curious to what was going on. But his curiosity was diverted for a moment as he noticed some woman violently regarding one of the newcomer customers. Sometimes, he had to wonder how these people knew the difference between a newcomer and a native.

He came over to the boy who had spilled his groceries.

"It's a rather hostile environment for outsiders here, isn't it?"

Kevin looked up and shrugged, picking up the last of his groceries. "Ain't so bad." He finally looked up and frowned. "Ya a newcomer too?"

He didn't remember the guy, but that didn't mean much.

"I am."

To be frank, Genesis didn't remember this man so much either-- although there was something familiar about his face.

"Well, hopefully, ya have better luck'n me." He sighed at the state of his tomatoes. He went over and picked up others. The ones he'd dropped could still be used in stew or spaghetti sauce or something, just not on burgers.

"I doubt I will, really. Newcomer prejudice is quite rampant," Genesis shook his head then. It was almost amusing, being hated instead of being loved as he was in the past by all his fanclubs and such.

For now, his eyes went over to the things in the boy's basket. He seemed to be gearing up for some celebration as some others were as well.

"Is there a special occasion today?"

"Eh, the prejudice ain't so bad. Ya learn t'live with it." Says the boy with a death touch and coming from a world where people would rather shoot him than look at him.

"If'n ya's American. Canada has their thin' on the first but America's celebration is on the fourth." Kevin shrugged. "I ain't Canadian, so I worked fer their day an' got today off."

"Hm. I'm neither. So I don't think I'll be celebrating anything here in the city." He chuckles, looking through the boy's basket.

"So, tell me about this celebration. I'm not familiar with this world at all."

Kevin noticed that looking. He's immediately on guard, because he's got a power that can kill and he doesn't want anyone to get hurt. That and he's a mutant.

"The Fourth of July is a celebration of independence from England. Celebrate it every year." A shrug.

"Hm. There were never any celebrations of independence in my world. This world must be lucky then to know such a thing."

"Comes at a price." Kevin knew the price, even more than most Americans. As a mutant, he didn't have the same freedoms that others did. So, when he could use them, they were even more precious.

He began looking for other things. Needed things for salads and the like. He couldn't put out a full spread, but he could do something.

"Ya ain't from Earth then?" Actually, that wasn't that unusual to him. X-Men and all.

Genesis shook his head.

"No. Not from here. I know of places similar to Siren's Port, but there are things back home that are very different from how things are here. At least you're familiar with things are in this world."

"Some things ain't no different from home." The whole Newcomer thing was so familiar. Mutants were just the same back home.

"There's more'n a few things I ain't used to here." He shrugged. "Jus' used't adaptin'."

"That's good for you, then. It's taking me a little time to get used to things here, but I'm sure I'll be alright. I'm enjoying it for all it's worth," Genesis chuckles, reminded of the way he wasn't bound down by ShinRa anymore or the obligation to be a SOLDIER.

"It's alrigh'." Kevin didn't find it any better than being at home, but that was because he still had his horrible power, and he still could kill with a touch. He'd proven that.

"Guess it's jus' whatcha used t'." Kevin was wandering, picking out more food. "I'm more used t' places like this. An' c'n see the trouble waitin' fer all o' us."

"Well, whatever problem does brew up, I'm sure I'll be able to face it," Genesis hums, quite content as he picks up some things from the shelves, too. The remnants don't eat-- so he only buys a few food things for himself. He wonders if he should get anything special for his birthday, but decides against it.

"... you seem a touch familiar. Have we spoken before?"
