[Vampires. She'd once willingly walked into the seethe. Once, she'd unwillingly walked into the seethe, having no other choice. She dealt with Stephan on a daily basis when his van needed repairs, and had even bought him that ridiculous Scooby Doo.

But this was different. The music hurt her sensitive ears but she didn't care. She wanted to see this place for herself. So, she stepped into the club, even though it made her want to curl her lip and have four feet instead of two.

Gabriel would forgive her for cheating on Purgatory. She hoped.]

[Elaine should have probably known better. But there was some part of her that needed to know what went on in the club. Whether it was as above-board as Eric claimed--or at least as above-board as it could be with vampires involved--or not.

She was glad, at least, that she spotted someone that she recognized, and immediately began threading her way toward Mercy to introduce herself.]

[Mercy was going to make herself claustrophobic. Places like this just weren't meant for shapeshifters like her. Sighing, she tipped the bartender. Then she smelled something... different. Harry's scent. But she didn't see Harry anywhere. Turning, she saw Elaine and cleared a space for her.]

[Elaine would smell like Harry after living in his house for a week. Using his soap. Sleeping in his arms.

She moved into the space beside Mercy and offered a wry smile. It was loud. And crowded. But then, she had been living in LA before coming to the Port, so it was nothing she couldn't handle.]

Casing the joint, are you?

[Mercy didn't care about all that. All she knew was the woman smelled like Harry. She could put two and two together. She didn't fail math.]

Not exactly. More curiosity than anything else. You?

[She shrugged her shoulders. Then smirked.]

Casing the joint.

[Mercy can't help but chuckle. Because, if she were honest, she'd do it too, but she doesn't have to be honest. Not right now anyway.]

Looking to see what the night brings?

[She snorts.]

Looking to see if I need to add anyone to my shit list.

[Mercy couldn't help but laugh at that. Honestly, what else did she expect? Not much.]

Keeping that to the fanged variety or just anyone at all?

Mostly the fanged variety, but anyone with the power of compulsion is subject to investigation.

[Mercy's safe from scrutiny...for now.]

[Power of compulsion. Yes, they did have that, didn't they?]

That seems pretty standard for most vampires. Though if they follow the house rules... The rules remind me of the vampires I knew back home.

[Elaine nods. Whether it was the red court, with their compliance-inducing saliva, the white court with their preternatural allure, the blacks with their Draculaic sorcery--or any combination of the sort of vampires to which she was accustomed--Elaine knew very few vampires who wouldn't twist a situation to their own ends, given the opportunity. ]

Rules are just a formality. Anything with enough mojo can dupe someone into consenting.

[Yes, this is a bit of a sore subject with Elaine. She's had her mind rolled one too many times.]

[Mercy doesn't argue. When she was mindcontrolled, the bastard raped her.]

I know.

[The words are almost almost a growl. But she reins it in before her lip curls.]

Still have to give them a chance. Can't condemn them all. At least not before they give reason to.

[Elaine shrugs, looking apologetic.]

True. There's always the exception.

I worked with one. He had his menagerie, but he didn't harm them and kept them in far better circumstances than a lot of other vampires of the seethe.

[A sigh. She missed Stephan.]

[Elaine tries not to shudder at the word menagerie. Well kept livestock were still just that, and it wasn't right. But she held her tongue. It could always be worse.]

That's a new word. Seethe. I suppose every group has their own term for it, though, don't they? Court. Scourge. Seethe.

[It almost makes Elaine think of Sidhe.]

I'm still not quite sure what to make of the master of this particular court.
