KNOCKING AT YOUR DOOR.

"Medea!" Mercy snapped in exasperation. The cat was not helping. She just wanted to put cookies in the oven. That's all. She finally slid the cookie sheet in and walked out of the kitchen, wiping her hands. "Mei, go lay down. 'Dite, you too."

She finally opened the door after shoving animals (a cat, a kitten and a puppy) away from her feet. "Hey Rochelle, c'mon in."

Outside Rochelle crossed her arms and listened to what she could vaguely hear from the inside of Mercy's place. The abilities the Core didn't want for need, one of the many uses she got out of them was knowing when somebody was coming to the door. Hell, that there was even anybody home. All she had to do was 'feel' their presence. Sixth senses were nice, she realized.

It would have made the apocalypse ten times easier, but superpowers on top of zombies probably wasn't a good idea somewhere somehow. They already had super zombies without help from the comic books.

It's why Rochelle seemed more relaxed when Mercy opened the door. She felt a little better since yesterday, but she certainly didn't mind the company or the cookies. With a small wave and a small smile Ro walked in.

"Long time no see, Mercy, what's up?"

Looking down at her own feet she looked at all the little animals down there. "You... starting a zoo?"

Mercy snorted out a soft laugh and closed the door behind Rochelle, shooing Aphrodite and Medea away from the door. Never mind the puppy. She didn't mind that they liked going outside, but this was ridiculous.

"Medea," she nudged the cat with her toe, "is mine from home. A gift from the Core. Aphrodite and Mei, I inherited from friends who went home." She turned back toward the kitchen. "Come on into the kitchen, I'm still working on the brownies."

Rochelle offered a tired grin. It was sorta sweet to see somebody with their animals, provided they weren't crazy cat people. But as far as she could tell with Mercy...

Oh, right. Cookies. She looked up. "Sure, you lead. I can't remember the last time I ever been in your house, now that I think about it."

"I don't think you've ever been here." Mercy said, leading the way to the kitchen. She automatically reached for the towel to check on the cookies. "There's some already done on the table if you want to start on them."

She reached into the fridge and pulled out a pair of beers. Sure, it was early, but Ro looked like she needed it. "So, wanna talk about it?"

Oh. Well. "Then that saves me from wondering if I spontaneously lost my memory or not. You never know, with the weird-assed powers the Core gives people here..."

Call her paranoid right now. Or at least tired. As she followed, her eyes were instantly drawn to the table where she'd caught sight of the already-done cookies. That small smile she'd made had gotten bigger, and a little more genuine. "Oh, hell yeah. Don't mind if I do."

With that, she sat herself at the table and reached out for a cookie. God, she knew she needed something and somebody, at least, but she didn't realized she needed it this much.

"Well." Rochelle started, taking a bite in between. "How does messy break-ups sound to you?"

Mercy just pulled the cookies out of the oven and put in the next batch. "I've been through a couple."

One. Where she'd left the state and not returned for almost fifteen years and barely called anyone back home until he started living with her - again - and pissing off her boyfriend.

"What happened?"

"Same here. But not in a while--thanks." Oh, right. She took her beer. "Can't say I've ever been a morning drinker, but... screw it."

Oh, it wasn't anything new for her. Not anything she wouldn't get over soon enough. But it didn't mean they didn't suck.

"We had a fight the other night... pretty big one. Long story short, I walked out. One the Suit who decided after six months that there was nothing to walk out on."

Mercy actually winced and sat with Rochelle. "That's a pretty hard thing to deal with." She admitted. "Drinking normally helps. I clean and bake a lot. Or you could get a picture of him, tape it to a dart board and use it for practice. Worked for a friend of mine in college."

"It doesn't help he's both an asshole yet one of the few guys I'd trust with me life, either..." Rochelle trailled. "He and I come from the same--whatever you want to call it."

It still felt weird to say 'world' sometimes.

"Same apocalypse, I guess. He's a conman gambling assclown that looks like Colonel Sanders, but he was my friend."

And it grew into that 'something more' here in Siren's Port, but the producer decided the rest spoke for itself. Mostly. She eyed the beer for a moment, as if hesitant, but... again, screw it. She opened it up, and took a drink. "I DID take apart some of the fancy jewelry I got from him."

But, uh. "Some of it."

Mercy snorted as Medea twined around their ankles. "No, it's always the ones that are closest to us that hurt the most." She sighed and leaned down to pet Medea who was purring up a storm.

... With her luck, Medea was going to get out and end up over at Harry's. What was it with her cat and big dogs?

"Did it make you feel better?"

Rochelle looked down as she took another drink and watched Medea idly.

"A little."

Medea and Aphrodite - or 'Dite as Mercy called her - were pains in the ankle. 'Dite was in her 'let's see what this tastes like! Nom!' stage and Medea was feeling highly neglected.

Mei, the puppy, was the nicest of the three, if only because she'd pulled the 'head bitch in charge' rap on him. Literally.

"I could go bite him for you. But, that generally doesn't end well for me." Mercy, of course, assumed that Rochelle had gotten the memo about her being a coyote. Had she?

Rochelle looked back up at Mercy as she finished her first cookie and raised an eyebrow. To be honest, writer on board can't remember if Rochelle ever knew. But for convinience sake, we can say she got the memo eventually!

"Uh, yeah, no. I'm good. Me and Colonel Sanders are already immune to zombie, but I dunno if we're immune to anything else."

... Not to assume Mercy had fleas or rabies.

Mercy snickered. She couldn't help it. She got up to get the next batch out of the oven. "I'm not a were, Rochelle. My bite doesn't do anything." A wicked grin. "Well, beyond hurt like hell."

Not wholly true, because she'd killed a pair of werewolves, but... she wouldn't do that to this guy. Bite him in the ass, maybe.
