I also love this post. Your thoughts, which I never hear enough of, the fun pics, and sharing what you are reading.

I took the paragraph a little different until you talked about your problems with it.

I did not mind the metaphor as it was.

What I thought about when reading that paragraph is really talking about the rootlessness of the modern age.

I have had some recent conversations about family, attachment and abandonment.

If I attained a fortune while traveling distant lands, I suspect it was at a cost of leaving those behind. Most likely an opportunity cost for them. i.e. What happened to those I left behind without my assistance in perpetuating their existence?

I suspect it is easier to leave a troubled place even if it means they fall or remain in slavery than stay and try and make it better for them.

Someday I will let my roots grow...

I'm still bitter from my leftist college experience, where it seemed everything could be blamed on dead white men :)

I'm putting down roots here in Portland. You're part of that.

Wow...

Are those sea forts actually real? They look so Mad Max movie set.

Yes, Britain built them to guard against German bombers in WWII. They had AA guns on top and were credited with several kills.

After asking you if they were real I decided to Google them. They're so creepy. There's youtube video of the inside. Ghostly.
