I realized a couple ago that I have a project in phonetics due wednesday. I am to take a full page of russian that Drozd provided us, and transcribe it into the international phonetics alphabet. It is proving to be a bit irritating, but not really dificult...it just takes a LOT of time ( Read more... )

I <3 U, KYLE!!!!!!!!!!
If yoou need some $ over the summer, we can always use a farmhand then or now. It'd just be on weekends mostly, I'd give you a ride & room &board for the weekend's free as well as pay, tthough you alwys have to keep in mind why you're doing it if you don't love fsrming. Granted I'm a bit partial, I can'r imagine life w/out a farm!

I see you've been dabbling around in Linux. I downloaded Fedora Core 1 the other day and the 2.6 kernel. I have the potential to be a big fan of it if it weren't for my darn wireless network connection. What fun is Linux with not internet? It's a Linksys 802.11b card based on this not-too-well-support chipset (Broadcom I believe). Anyways, got any clue how to get this guy working? Thanks.

this is a place to start. Admittedly, pcmcia issues are problematic. On my old laptop, I got an unsupported card (D-Link600+...ugh) working with moderate success, but it was far from perfect. Your best bet is to google for your exact card and chipset + linux, and see if you can find a few how-to's. Another place to start working on it is to get pcmcia-cs.

I can't really help you much past that, I'm afraid...I'm a Gentoo person, and thus have a mild distaste for anything Red Hat. ;-) It is worth noting, though, that if all esle fails you might try the 2.4.22 kernel...While the 2.6 is "out," it's still new enough that some users suggest waiting unti the bugs its increased popularity finds are fixed. Another thing to consider: it might be worth it to just shell out for a well-supported card. I'm told the Orinoco and Prism chipsets are both very well supported under linux.

K~
