Nice pumpkin! How'd you do the brain without breaking through into the innards? And you didn't even have to scoop it out. You could have made pumpkin pie.
A note of warning - chopped up bits of blackberry vine have a tendancy, like a hydra, to spring up into very many blackberry vines. Especially when buried. The only way to slay the monster is to a) bury them very deep, with a stone on top, b) burn the witches, or c) mulch them effectively, a combination of a & b which is surprisingly difficult.
In Seattle people flooded the streets, and there were fireworks and tubas, Tuesday night. Can we play tubas in celebration of a New Hope? Yes we can.
Thank you, ladies! The brain was easier (and more stable) than it looks, because for the most part, I was working with almost the entire thickness of the rind: The only place where I removed much material was down around the rim. I was planning on having to carve all the brain crenulations with a knife, but Dad lent me his Dremel (electric hobby drill with lots of fun tips), and it went much quicker. Yeah, I considered doing the pie thing, but that was before he started rotting around the mouth. My own dang fault for leaving him outside in the rain all night.
I've learned to accept that blackberries are going to keep trying to strangle this place no matter *what* I do, so the grotto/pumpkin patch just becomes one more place to visit on my semi-monthly pruning & hacking tour.
