Pretty much pointless doctor appointment today

Sep 25, 2007 16:37

So my endocrinologist referred me to another endocrinologist (his friend) to see if this doctor could give me some insight into my failing health. Well.. after waiting MONTHS to get this appointment, I find out that this doc is baffled by why his MENTOR and TEACHER would send me to him when he would not know any more than my original doctor. Oh ( Read more... )

Sometimes doctors like to get a colleagues opinion if they feel they have hit a wall, just to make sure. He's probably just making sure he's still on track with you. Know what I mean, jellybean?

You are going to have an amazing weekend. I can see it already!

Thank you sweetheart! I can't even tell you how I happy I ma for you and Ed. I read your entries and they just give me hope that one day I can get to where you are.. You really do inspire me :)

I am just sick of doctors "hitting walls" with me.. It makes me feel like they give up . And I am SO sick of hearing every single symptoms i have is from the Fibromyalgia because part of me still hopes I have something undiscovered that is actually CURABLE.. I guess I don't want to just accept it's all the fibro. I keep thinking "what if it's something else they haven;t discoverd yet and it's not just Fibro? What if it's something that can be fixed?"

*HUGS*

p.s. It made me smile when you called me "jellybean" It's funny because my best friend and I always call each other bean related nicknames! :)

My brain is feels partially dead at that moment so I don't have much to say except that Armour has done wonders for my mood...I'm still waiting to see if it does anything for my weight but my doctor is increasing it extremely slowly since I have that heart thingy...tachycardia...yeah that.

Well I hope you can get the Armour and it works.

Oh my god WHERE do I find a doctor who prescribes Armouor? I can't find one who does! It sucks.. most doctors have been brainwashed by the pharmaceutical companies.. It sucks that they think synthetic is better than natural. I wish there was a listing of docs who prescribe Armour somewhere.. I'm gonna have to research About.com when I have more energy...

*HUGS*

p.s. How long did it take until you noticed a difference with the Armour? I am just baffled by doctors.. obviously Synthroid has not helped me no matter how many times they raised the dose over the past 4 years.. Why would they not let me TRY something else?

UGH.. I HATE DOCTORS! Maybe one day I'll get desperate (more desperate) and order it over the internet..haha.

The mental effects came on pretty early, like in the first two weeks, which could be because of the T3, which I've read kicks in almost immediately, and that was what I was really lacking. That was only on 15mgs or 1/2 a grain. But even though my T3 is low it's not drastically low ( ... )

I just did a search for "doctors that prescribe armour thyroid" and it took me here:
http://www.armourthyroid.com/locate.html
And I searched within 10 miles of my zip code and MY OLD ENDOCRINOLOGIST'S NAME IS LISTED AS A PRESCRIBER! LIES! He told me he doesn't prescribe it!
WTF!

http://www.altsupportthyroid.org/treatment/hypomedcomp.php#take

the above link goes into nice charts about T3 and T4 thyroid meds.
maybe you need a mix. it's easy to read.

Have you been tested for Addison's disease?

Ooohhhh.. Thank you for the link! I have been on Synthroid alone. and I also tried a combo of Synthroid AND Cytomel (twice!), but didn't do well on the Cytomel.. made me have symtoms of hyperthyroid.. Which I guess makes sense now if I in fact have Hashimotos... Ugh.. I wish I could find a doctor who prescribes Armour!!!

As far as Addisons goes, that was never really considered because one of the main symptoms is weight loss and I never had that.. only weight gain :P I have had my cortisol tested ONCE and the test I had done was so inaccurate from what I've read about how you have to test cortisol (for a thorough test they have to test it several times a day and est your urine as well as your blood)... and my cortisol was HIGH out of range at the time and the doc I was seein then wasnt concerned. I actually mentioned testing my adrenals today and I don;t think the doctor blinked. This man was a doofus. I did not like him. no sir.

I was prescribed Provigil once years ago and got a test dose of 5 pills (it was ridiculously expensive at the time) and I only took one pill and I didnt feel well on it and never tried it again. Then again I could have just not felt well at that time.. From what I have read the past few years about Provigil it isn't really any miracle drug.. I don;t know.. I just don;t know anyone who got results from it.

What other anti-fatigue drugs exist? Have you tried any?

Thank you for your input sweetie *HUGS*

that's what i take- provigil. when i first started taking it i felt a bit sick. i decided to take half doses instead of the recommended 200mgs at once. that worked out better for me. last year i was only taking 100mgs, but this year i'm feeling more fatigued so i'm taking 200mgs. the pills are easy to bite. i take a half a pill in the morning and a half a pill in the afternoon and so far it's working good for my fatigue at work. i still go through fatigue at times where if i'm so overly tired the pills just won't do it then i have to give up, but my hahhaa normal fatigue it's okay.

Maybe I should try it again... What does it feel like.. I mean does it make you truly awake and able to think straight.. right now I feel foggy and fuzzy a lot of the time and I can;t concentrate.. I just don;t want to feel "fake awake". I should consider trying it again...

Thanks for the info!

Seriously.. you have to come here even if only for the fact that you have to come eat at Asia Grill.. That alone should make you want to relocate. Plus I could use a free subscription to Cosmo. And to know another person in person who doesn't suck.
:P
