What I Want To Do...

...And What I Never Did.
This severly distresses me. 9 months or so ago I planned the entire list out. I had trivial goals, but I never meant to do anything mind-blowing. I never meant to do anything to get recognized, to make a dent on the brunt of a society of media I so longed to break into ( Read more... )

When you set out a big net and say, "I'm going to do A, B, C, D, E, F.... Z by somedate", it's very hard to get any of them done. It's easier to pick out which item in the list is most important to you and say, "I'm going to complete this one thing by somedate." And think every day about how you got closer to completing that one goal. And, if necessary, revise the due date, since unexpected things come up.

Little steps. :)

You're right, Chaz. I focus too much on a bucket full of goals instead of drinking a glassful. Your advice... what do you think I should start out with first?

I would say either start the hackey sack club or lose weight.

A lot of your goals either require other goals or aren't measurable. For example, I'm obviously not going to suggest, "If Macromedia Flash is learned, produce a Flash film and submit it to Newgrounds.com" because of the prereq of learning Flash. Likewise, I'm not going to suggest "Play hackey sack better" because there isn't really a point where you can say, "OK! I'm better now. Time for the next goal."

The only reason why I can so readily come up with answers like this is because us programmers tend to create goals that are not measurable, and when goals of a software project are not measurable, the software falls behind schedule. So we're required to take an entire course on the subject. Of course, we mostly consider it to be a bullshit class, so none of us walk away learning much from it. :-P
