Well, Harry's turned out to be a decent enough bartender. And I'm not just saying that because it's his birthday - the Banshee's brief financial woes have been more than managed, largely due to his strange talent with selling the more exotic unsellable drinks. I'm told the pumpkin schnapps had outlived three generations of landlord, though at this ( Read more... )

There are other hobbies besides mixed drinks?

I must confess I'm having trouble thinking of one just at the moment.

I don't think there are any other hobbies that matter, anyway.

Perhaps... cricket? No, that can't possibly be a hobby. Someone would have to actually like cricket.

Selling the exotic drinks isn't so hard if you have a gimmick. Sometimes I tell them that the "Harvest Hurricane" is the day's special, and if you say something's special you'd be surprised how many people decide they want to try it. Another trick is to tell them that Harvest Hurricanes are all the rage in America. If it's from America, then they usually want to try it, if only to reassure themselves that Americans have crap taste.

Lying to the customers is clearly a useful habit I must endeavour to obtain.

I don't tell lies. I tell people what they need to hear in order to swallow a drink made with pumpkin schnapps, rum, and orange squash. Harvest Hurricanes are pretty special, and they might be popular in America for all I know.

It occurs to me that I should be most impressed that you managed to convince someone the Harvest Hurricane is the special in July.

You don't need a hobby, you need a pet! A dog or a cat or.. oooh guinea pig! A whistling piglet, who doesn't want one of those?

A whistling piglet? Not sure I like the sound of that.

Guinea pigs whistle, you know! What sort of pet if not that, then? A goldfish? A goldfish is a very sensible, Zacharias sort of pet.

Or, if you're still dead set on a hobby, I could give you music lessons.

Now there's a thought. I can learn to sing to my goldfish, and name it something clever like Bartok.

What's wrong with mixed drinks?

Nothing whatsoever. I'm merely suggesting it might be time for a second hobby.
