2 years ago I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrom. I didn't really give a shit, but fact is that I'm pretty socially awkward. This is why my comments are always hidden and it takes me ages to reply. It's not that I don't care I'm just SO socially anxious that I'm too scared to read my LJ inbox. Seriously. Literally.

Don't worry about asking, I read the post about your son and was very interested actually! I have a mild version of Asperger's plus that I'm just very insecure. Those two make combined me a social wreck. But yes, I do have problems with routine and structure as well, I hate change and want everything to stay the same or else I'll get really upset. And other people often point out to me that I don't make eye contact, but I don't consciously avoid it. You should note that Asperger's has different typical symptoms in boys and girls.
