[His handwriting is small and meticulous, but only because he was actually focused on making it legible. It slants slightly down the page, without the benefit of lines to keep it from doing so. He pauses no less than twenty times halfway through any sentence or word.]So anybody can read this? That seems kinda weird to me. I dunno, maybe it's ( Read more... )

That we can.

[He's assuming this is a new person, given the question.]

This is the sort of place where bizarre becomes the new perfectly normal.

Huh. Well at least I know my handwriting isn't too horrible. Glad I didn't forget how to write, too.

Sounds positively delightful.

For all we do forget, the amnesia's oddly convenient in that it doesn't rob us of the basic skills we need to avoid being dribbling idiots.

I'll give you that. Don't think I'd have enjoyed being a dribbling idiot much at all.

I hear the weirdness becomes kinda the norm after a while, but I haven't got to that point just yet. Don't reckon I ever will, least not entirely.

I'm Serenity.

[He pauses for a while at her strange vernacular, trying to figure out if it's at all familiar, since it's notably different than how most of the others have talked. ...written.]

I'm with you there-- even if I can't remember where I used to live, I think living in a tree is probably one of the stranger choices.

Sven.

I only remember a smidge about where I lived, but I've met a few people from the same place. They know a lot more than what I can recall.

Have you given much thought to what you wanna do by way of employment?

Well that's good, at least.

[A shrug, until he remembers that Serenity can't see it.] I've thought about a couple of 'em, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm good at, so I'm still working it out.

Hi! You're new, right? I'm Nova. Living in the tree isn't so bad, though there are also places on the islands where you can live.

What are you drawing? [There's an arrow here pointing to one of the doodles. Curious cat is curious.]

[His reply takes a moment, because he's pulled out his map and is looking it over again, scribbling "places on islands to live" in one corner.]

Just "hatched", apparently. Nice to meet you, Nova, I'm Sven.

[He frowns at the arrow and looks at his own half-started doodle.] I think it's a dragon. Not really sure. [It's a headshot of Toothless, to be specific, but Sven doesn't know the dragon's name or even for certain that he's a dragon.]

There are some dragons around here! Like Havoc. He's a big red dragon. My roommate Krile can speak to dragons. You've already spoken with her, I see.

A big red dragon. [He thinks for a minute, trying to recall any big red dragons. Certainly Havoc isn't a Monstrous Nightmare, but Sven doesn't even recall one of them just yet. So he shrugs.] Pretty cool that she can talk to them. I think I just rode them, at home.

I cannot say whether I have or have not wished to live arboreally, but I must say that when phrased as such, it is a familiar concept.

[Oh this one talks all sorts of fancy. He straightens his posture out of subconscious habit.] See? Secretly we all wanted to live... arboreally. [He'll have to remember to write that word down elsewhere and use it when he wants to look smart.]

cathar_jedi December 3 2010, 04:54:32 UTC
Perhaps.

I suspect that if ever I have, I would have preferred this tree to be part of a forest.

[There's a pause before he replies, where he recalls all the trees in the basin in his dream.]

That sounds pretty nice, actually.

I can read it! You got nice writing!

I'm Blood, who're you?

Reply

skimpysandwich December 3 2010, 04:46:48 UTC
That's because I'm making a point of writing nicely. Thanks, though.

...Sven. [Oh God someone just introduced themselves as Blood. What kind of a person names themselves Blood. He's envisioning some like... battle-scarred warrior with burns and only one eye or something.]

You're welcome! I gotta try and write nicely too, since I'm using a crayon!

That's a funny name!

[You would not believe the mental images he's being given, here. He sits there for a minute, boggling at the journal.]

...with all due respect, so is "Blood".
