[His handwriting is small and meticulous, but only because he was actually focused on making it legible. It slants slightly down the page, without the benefit of lines to keep it from doing so. He pauses no less than twenty times halfway through any sentence or word.]So anybody can read this? That seems kinda weird to me. I dunno, maybe it's ( Read more... )

Yes I always dreamed that someday, somehow, I'd be memory wiped, thrown under glass and would get to live a life full of danger, death and people with funny names. My life finally has meaning.

[Oh thank the Gods, someone he knows he can get along with.]

See? I knew I wasn't alone. Nothing like having a childhood dream you can't even remember come true unexpectedly, eh?

Right. I'd imagine my mother being proud of me, if only I could remember what she looked like.

What's your name, new kid?

[He actually laughs at that for a moment, dutifully pushing aside the continual memory of the shadow of his father.]

Sven. Yours?

Oh, Sven, you are discovering the wonders of the magic journal!

This is Rick, by the way. Oh, and Genius is my brother.

It's quite magical, really. [He makes a silly hand gesture at the book, not unlike jazz hands.]

Good to see you again. ...er, your handwriting. And he's the brother? Man, I'm gonna have to start making charts.

Super-magical.

Yep, he is. It can be terribly confusing at first, but you'll get the swing of it. Eventually.

Extra-magical.

It's the "eventually" part that I'm worried about.

Hi, Cissus. [What a strange name.]

I'm kind of getting that vibe, yeah.

Hello, Sven, welcome to the Sphere. [Yes, detective Nikki did read some comments until she found out what your name was.] I'm Nikki, I work for the Guard and the Watch, so if you have any questions or need anything, don't hesitate to ask.

[Couple other people did that, too, and since his name's scrawled all over the page by now he's not too bothered.]

Nice to meet you, Nikki. I think I've got too many questions to even bother asking right now, but I'll let you know when I settle on one that sounds good for the Guard or the Watch.

Fair enough; I don't think anybody ever runs out of questions, to be honest. However, since it seems Rick was your greeter I assume you're pretty well informed for the moment.

Of course that was our dream. You know, giant insects, trapped forever in a mysterious globe with no idea where we are. It's everybody's idea of a grand old time. It's all for the syrup, you see. We all gave up our memories because we really like pancakes.

Hey, pancakes are good. And maybe the giant insects are supposed to be toppings for the pancakes. Added fiber, you know?

I dunno, I think that you'd probably have trouble finding a pancake big enough to house the bugs. Besides, you'd have to watch out for the stingers.

I'm Sniper. I can see you're new here, huh, Sven?

That big, huh? That'd have to be one Hel of a pancake.

Nice to meet you. Looks like it, yeah.
