Washington Ave Bridge collapse.

Aug 01, 2007 21:50

OMG. The pics of the collapse of the bridge in Minneapolis don't do it justice. It's mind blowing. The bridge is a main throughfare in the cities and Minneapolis. I'm shaking. I was supposed to go to the 'rents tonight and if I had, it would have been at that time and over that bridge. My co-worker told me about the Twins game start time so I ( Read more... )

I'm fine, and as far as I know, all my family and friends are fine, too. Thank gord.

It's horrible, and the impact is going to be big time around here for years to come (they're talking at least 2 years for a new bridge), but it could have been much, much worse. Not that bumper to bumper rush hour/Twins traffic is good or anything, but still.

It's surreal around here. You can't believe it happened. I've never heard work this quiet. It's like everyone's in shock.

But I must say that although it's bad, the national media has kinda sensationalized it a tad. I was flipping between local and national and it was night and day. But it's still bad. It's going to have an impact for years around here. But like I said, it could be worse...

I thought of you as soon as I heard about this, and was hoping to hell you weren't anywhere near that bridge.

Me, too. Thankfully everyone I know (I think) is accounted for. If you look at the graphic link I posted, on the top right corner you see a semi and a building. I *almost* rented an apartment there in the building next to that. In fact, I kept seeing it during the coverage thinking "if I rented there, I would be watching this out my window"! Thankfully they did a bait and switch and I couldn't afford the place they actually had open at the time.

Glad you're ok!! I'm sure the death toll will continue to rise. I hope all of your friends and family are ok.

Thanks. As far as I know, everyone I know is OK. It's surreal, though. They haven't had straight numbers, but last count I heard is about 50 or so people are missing, so yea. It's going to get worse.

Thanks!

Yea, it's not that far from my place, and the way I go if I'm going to my parents from work. It sucks, but I'm amazed that with the amount of traffic on that thing that the death toll is that small. Granted, it shouldn't have happened in the first place!
