I had to stop liking Derek there for a few episodes. That scene turned my stomach, and that was before I found out that Erica was only 15. She just seemed so scared and vulnerable. It was horrible.

It was very hands-on, versus when he recruited Boyd and Isaac, which made it grossly sexual when it shouldn't have been. AND ALSO those scenes where Erica tries to come on to Derek and he says he has someone else in mind for her - unless that was just in a fic? I think it was in the show, but my mind these days...
ANYWAY, yes, gross and inappropriate.

Also, re: Stiles not being as squicky for people -- I don't think it's the age thing or the gender thing. Despite being a total wreck on the inside, Stiles puts up an amazing front of being in control and self-possessed, in a way that Erica doesn't. Erica doesn't push back the way Stiles does.

That scene was sketchy at the time but SUPER sketchy upon the revelation of Erica's age. What are you DOING, Derek????

The ages of all of the kids threw me for a loop when it was revealed they're all only 16 at the most (except for Allison). They're all still sophomores! That definitely threw the brakes on shipping for me. I can and do read any of the teens with each other, but my beautiful otp has to have caveats out the wazoo for me to be comfortable reading it now. Stiles always has to be stated as being at LEAST sixteen, or he has to be a senior and Derek has to be aged down, or it has to be a total AU and they're both grown up, or college fic! Or future fic! Or fic where Derek is very aware of Stiles' age and they have lots of pining looks and super sexually charged pack meetings for two years until Stiles turns 18. Or if it's like a soulmate/mate fic or something, because I'm always really easy for those and I can wave away the squicky feelings with "But it's destiny!"

For the most part I don't even think about their ages in fic unless it's highlighted for comedic effect. The show, though. Ew. Plus, yeah, there is no way they should even be trying to get the actress who plays Erica to come across as 15, that's crazy! Allison would make a better 15 year old, and she's like, 27 in real life, I think! CRAZY.
