Afternoon/evening of a bit of work, then Starbucks, Kramer's, Brickskeller, and Jefferson

Dec 29, 2004 02:00

Well, xmas cards didn't get mailed today, because I got called in to do some work around 1400. Now, this was from Denver to meet a shipment in DC (at a site to which I'd been previously) around 1430, except there was no way the truck was getting from Fredericksburg to DC in half an hour; in fact, the estimated delivery time was 1545. Given my ( Read more... )

=/ i know - that earthquake, i don't understand. just: why? and why are the wrong people always chosen for these things. if it had only been me. okay maybe that's a little too self-deprecating, but not really..anyway, i love the jefferson memorial! i just love dc altogether - happy holidays! i hope your winter vacation has been fantastical and everything you'd hoped it would be. =)

I tend not to question why.. I'm content to believe in chance and circumstance, generally.

I like the JM, too--not sure how long it'd been since I was last there. (Shame it's partly under restoration at the moment, inasmuch as it doesn't look as good right now. :)

Thanks! Happy holidays to you, too, and I hope yours has been just as good. :D

I am really happy to hear that I'm not the only one who hasn't yet sent out the holiday letters/Xmas card equivalents. ;-)

Hehe! Nope, I only bought the last of them within the last week or so. No letter, either, else they'd have been even later, I'm sure--and most of my friends/family have gotten email updates at least once during the year anyhow. :)

I don't do cards, because I realised a year ago that one of the things I hate most about the season is being forced to write the same thing on the same sort of card over and over again.

So, I did something I enjoy, which is talking about myself and messing about with photos and stuff, to create a year-summary newsletter, which went down exceedingly well last year, and was much more fun to produce.

It's that I didn't get to the post office for most of the stamps until today. ;-)

One friend did a long letter, one did a custom-printed photo from their honeymoon at Disney World with text printed on it; mine were one of a few sets of cards, generally with just their name and my signature. And a smiley, more often than not. Occasionally an extra few words if I had something specific to add, on maybe three cards. :)

As for stamps, I found there was a post office between the Toys R Us and Wal*Mart that I did my final bit of shopping at, though I had to hit WalMart for cash at the register before I could get enough stamps from the machine back at the PO. :)

I love the Jefferson Memorial too, and only partially for the usual geeky reasons...although one of my prom groups did stop there after dinner. :-D

In fact, the area out back by the tidal basin would be my top place to get married. God, I'm a nerd.

Nonsense! It's a very pretty area. :)

I don't even remember the last time I went to the memorial prior to last night..

What's unsettling about the Earth moving around a bit (aside from the literal interpretation)? Remember, we're just tenants.

Well, concerns spring to mind regarding greater disturbances of the earth's rotation, and the potential for drastic changes in lighting, magnetism, and temperature of the planet. Tenants as may be, we're tenants who would, for the most part, prefer to stay alive in a climatic range similar to what we currently experience.
