Singles Bar

When I was growing up, I remember hearing about these sleazy singles bars, where people would go for the express purpose of romantic connection. Didn't Jack, Janet, & Chrissy (and, particularly, Larry) patronize these places all the time?

Now I'm all grown up, and I realize that the very phrase has disappeared ( Read more... )

Then why was the term so common? Are you saying bars have just changed?

We have the internet now so people who are on the real prowl don't have to leave their home. So that's the change, oh and we have AIDS now, so that drunken singles hustle is a little different but then again not really.

Actually, the Roomates hung out in a pub, and rarely went to "singles bars". In fact, there is a specific instance where Chrissy goes to one such bar and is mistaken for a hooker. She comes home and relays the story to Janet, who is shocked and apalled. But when Jack comes home she begins the story with "I went to X bar" and Jack interrupts with "You shouldn't go to X bar, people will think you're a hooker!"

People tend to use computers and chatlines to hook up now.

This is very interesting. Your answer (that they're pretty much extinct?) contradict's olamina's!

To be fair, I've been with the same guy for 7 years now, so I can't speak to the singles scene. Some dance clubs (which I would differentiate from a bar) are indeed, meat markets. But any place where people congregate has that potential. I mean, even AA has singles dances, and I get hit on at the damn grocery store with H in the next isle over!
