They call it 'essential mathematics' yet I never find myself actually needing to use these equations. I think it's like algebra bordering on geometry. Basically I have to read fifty pages of lessons, do some self tests and then be expected to understand enough to do the exams at the end. The first question on this quiz is as follows: "find the volume of a sphere whose radius is 1 foot 6 inches' And it gives a little picture. Not too tough, just annoying to have to read so much and it's not like I can raise my hand with questions.

haha You love my machine ... love it! It's one badass beast. Hope Termi was able to get it working for you. Stay away from thin fabrics and you should be safe.

The duck looks like it's peeking at you from the side. I think it likes the way you squeeze it ;)

No no, I really do love it. He hasn't messed much with it yet. Yesterday pulled it out to read the manual and see if i could do-it-myself. I can't remember how to get the bobbin thread to meet up with the needle. When I filled the bobbin the machine made this horrible screeching noise so I went to wallyworld and picked up some machine oil. It's otherwise in good shape. I want to start sewing NOW but there's no one here to help me with getting the bobbin situated! arrrrgh.

The screeching noise could be something caught in the machine. Last time I tried to use it it jammed cuz I was using really thin material. As for the bobbin, that machine is so much older than mine so I can't be of much help to you. The book doesn't give any instructions? You could try to find something online maybe. Are you trying to put the bobbin in, or trying to load it with thread? Putting it in is the easy part (isn't it always, har har har).

The manual said that if the machine is loud it needs to be oiled. Apparently the parts always have to have a thin layer of oil on them, and if the machine is being used frequently it should be oiled at least once a week. That took care of it. What kind of material was too thin?
And i'm trying to put the bobbin in and have the thread come out of the top where the needle is. I got it IN but i can't get the needle to catch the thread from underneath so I can actually start sewing. roar.

For some reason I don't do well with a photographer. I always end up looking silly because I'm so quirky and I make weird facial expressions. Also the tension is obvious, I guess I get uncomfortable in front of the lens. I actually live with two photographers [[not professional, but hugely talented]] who have not done ANY sessions with me, even though i've expressed an interest to them. I'd be a lot more comfortable starting out with someone I knew well, yet they haven't showed the desire to have me as a subject. It's not like they aren't taking photos either, they come home with new exposures frequently of sessions. I just take it as if i'm not attractive enough, or not striking enough. Then again i'm really lacking confidance.

I have MANY idiosyncrisies. Okay you're an option. I do like what you've done. So crisp and full of personality. Nice.

having worked for starbucks, i can say that while they're often lampooned as an evil corporation, they're one of the best i've ever seen. They actually give real education to their employees, pay them well, and give full benefits for them and their domestic partner (even same-sex!!) at part-time, and pay the coffee farmers a good 120-200% more than the going rate for coffee.

So, in short. They're no walmart. =)

'no walmart.' THATS FOR SURE. They really do care about people and the environment and they're true CONNEISEURES of coffee. That's hard to find. One really could make a career out of Sbux. I can understand why people scoff at the place because they're growing rapidly and it's totally out of control in a sense. But i'm loving it so far. Woo!

maux, i am thrilled that you're happy with your job at starbucks, but i am terribly saddened by the fact that you're leaving hot topic. i don't know about you, but i always kind of regarded you as a big sister to me because i feel like i can talk to you about things that are on my mind, as stupid and naive as they are. i always enjoy talking to you, you're a wonderful and interesting person. i for one am also a big fan of your photography. i hope we can keep in touch even if you have to leave us. maybe we can make some crazy dance jams too. rock.

Yes, I will miss all of you dearly. That is why you and I should start a go-go band. I'll do the breakdancing and you can play the shopping cart. Then all of HT can come observe the spectacle! Definately. You always lighten the mood at work and I know you've got heart. I'll be around, so long as you all don't supply me with death threats when I leave.
