I've been swamped with work lately, and when I haven't been swamped, it's more of a case of my get up and go went off and left me. I have some time off coming up, so hopefully then I can catch up on all the great stories and drabbles everyone's posted and maybe get something written of my own. (I don't know, maybe I'm weird. I don't like replying ( Read more... )

The problem with most fruits is that while they're healthy and high in sugar, they're also fairly acidic, so if you have weak teeth you might want to be careful about your selection of fruits. (If you're worried about your sugar intake, you might want to stick to stuff like guava, water chestnut, green pears, green apples, that kind of thing.) Grapes, by the way, are high in both sugar and acid. I think apples might be too, but I'm not 100% sure on that. It may apply only to stuff like Fuji apples.

Maybe vegetables like cucumbers and carrots might help? I usually steam (or blanch) broccoli and eat them with pepper and a bit of salt if I feel unhealthy.

Hmm, pears and apples I think I can do. I just have to make the effort to eat them and not let them rot in the fridge or on the counter. <333 Thanks! I'm not much of a grape person, so it shouldn't be too hard.

And I LOVE cucumbers, so maybe that's the answer. Just buying my groceries, cutting up cucumbers and carrots for the week and then putting them in individual baggies that I can haul with me to work...*ponders*

<3333 Thanks!e

And pears and apples are easy to carry around whole, at least. Other fruits tend to oxidise quickly so aren't convenient to pack for work or snacks.

Haha, lucky break there. My mom and sister can sometimes go a little bit nuts and just have two entire cucumbers (EACH) for dinner. They slice them up into chunks, salt them lightly, then dip them into light soy sauce with sliced red chillis. I'd think the sheer amount of salt kind of negates the healthiness though. :P

For a while we had an entire jar of carrot and cucumber sticks in the fridge (in an air-tight jar) as a healthy snack, but I think mostly my family just doesn't snack. (Or if we do it's not veggies we go for. It's more a savoury snack habit?)

No problem! ^_~

Gatorade is NOT healthier than a banana.

For that matter, unless you're SEVERELY dehydrated Gatorade isn't healthier than WATER.

Gatorade is sugar salt and artificial flavoring in water.

Yeah, the hardest part for me on this whole healthy-weight loss-healthy kick was eating properly. I think it makes a whole lot of sense to drill this sort of thing into kids' heads when they're in middle school/high school so they at least know what they're getting into when they drink pop or have a King Sized candy bar ( ... )

Pop is the hardest thing to give up. I'm still craving it. Particularly since I don't want milk right now and there's nothing else to drink in the house other than tap water. (Well, and I'm out of clean glasses...possibly this is the universe's way of telling me to do dishes? -_-;;)

Oooh! Cherrios! You're awesome! I could totally do that with some cucs and carrots and have a pretty good portable lunch! *tackle glomps* ^_____^ Thank you!

...I have never tried cutting and apple with a butter knife, put it sounds really, really really hard. O_o ( ... )

Maria's nutrition professor actually said that, for children's cereals, Lucky Charms was one of the best. And they can stuff a lot of nutrients into flakes and pots of gold these days, but I do get what you are saying ( ... )

Lucky Charms...XD I suppose I could see it as the little oat things are not sugar coated or whatever...but then you have to eat the oat things and not just the marshmellows? ^_^;;

Ooh, that doesn't sound like a half bad dinner...you can substitute in chicken too, can't you? They make potatoes in a can?

!! I forgot about crock potting. I'll have to start looking into that again.

What are the contractors going to be up to? *curious* And good luck with the cleaning! *huggles*

^_^ Yes, you have to eat the oat things.

Sure, chicken. And, yes, the potatoes are in the aisle with all the other canned veggies.

We are getting estimates for some new windows and a new boiler. Not sure yet what we'll do, but first step is getting the estimates.

I have an enamel deficiency so it is pretty unusual if i don't have dental work done (and holy jesus, it's so painful!).

I only have a couple of tips for snacking when you are at work or through out the day. Carrots and cucumbers are great for snacks. Carrots scrape nasty bateria off your teeth and massarge your gums and cucumbers are pretty much water anyway, so it neutralises the acid and encourages your mouth to produce saliva.

Or, if you can't refrain from sugery snacks, eat them with meals or eat cheese/cucumber/carrots afterwards. It helps to lower the ph levels in your mouth as close to neutral as it can.

Oh man, that sucks, I'm sorry. ;_; I hate going to the dentist without having to worry about them doing more than polishing my teeth which is usually enough to make me cringe/crawl out of the chair.

<3333 *tackle hearts* Thank you! I love cucumbers to pieces and can eat them like there's no tomorrow, so that will work out well. And baby carrots would be perfect and portable. You rock!
