It's happened.  Not just frost now, our birdbath was frozen this morning.  Oh, not enough that the sparrows were skating on it, just a layer across the top.  I'll make the annual spelunking trip down to the absement soon, to waken the furnace for Winter.  Keep warm, everyone!

Ahhh, Autumn at last.  The trees are turning colors, and the weather is turning brisk.  I no longer reach for a cloth robe when I wake up - now it is the huge thick green one that entices the cat up onto my lap.  I actually closed the windows against the cold last evening!  Kris has been taking down the taller flowers - memories of flowers, really ( Read more... )

Had a good visit with Peter and Sio in Rochester, we took a picnic lunch to Silver Lake Park and then fed our leftover bread to the Canada geese that live there.  Sio's surgery went well, and her recovery is coming along as it should.

I was looking at Africam.com today (which, if you haven't, you should - very interesting set of cameras all over Africa!) and saw an ad for a game lodge in South Africa that advertises the 'big five' animals, etc etc.  It also advertises itself as "MALARIA FREE"!  Wow, such an unexpected bonus...

We have officially tackled our long-overdue re-painting of the enclosed former porch.  We don't know how long ago it was upgraded to 'room' status - long before we met the house.  The ceiling above leaked a couple of years ago, then became remarkable sieve-like last year.  We have had it replaced ( Read more... )
