*sigh* 'Tis the season.
We were awakened this morning by huge loud bangs and booms, and flashing orange light. It took a moment, but I recognized it as the sound of the first run of the city's snowplows scraping up the first real snow of the season. Our new kitties were a bit freaked out, but I think they will adjust. Have a happy Winter, my friends. -
Veterans Day
We've put our flag out to honor Veterans Day. The stars and stripes are just outside our living room window, so that cats are halfway between terrified and mesmerized. -
Winter
We have our first real snowfall! It's not collecting on the ground....yet. -
An amazing day
I know - I haven't added anything here in a long time. Today is special. Today I went to the rec center where I played as a child, and exercised my right to vote. I believe that this is the most important and history-making presidential election that has happened in my lifetime, and I am proud to have participated. Arthur C Clarke died today, he was 90 years old.
His science fiction (or, more appropriately scientific fiction) is a wonder to behold. We are very fortunate that he shared his visions with us. Using his pen and his mind, he sent me to Jupiter with David Bowman and the HAL 9000 computer, forever giving me beatiful visions of the Jovian system and ( Read more... ) -

Gary Gygax died today at the age of 69.
Gary Gygax was the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, waaaay back in 1974. I spent a lot of late nights playing this game with friends, creating characters, battling monsters, puzzling my way through adventures, creating vast games that we played while we drank too much caffeine and ate more junk food than ( Read more... ) -

Ugh, it's been a long week. I cracked the enamel on a wisdom tooth on Saturday and have been in pain since. This is mostly due to horrible dental habits and an overfondness for sugar. There is nothing quite like the pain of a toothache, particularly when one bites down on it. I've an appointment with an oral surgeon for extraction tomorrow ( Read more... )
