As a matter of interest, how is the transformation from Cockney to Posh managed in German? (I'm assuming the performance was in German?)

Also, I'm trying to imagine someone speak-singing "Ich habe ihr Gesicht kennegelernt" (that's a crap translation, I realise) and "Der Regen in Spanien, usw."

The rain in Spain is actually evil. Cause the German translates back into "It greens so green when Spain's flowers are in bloom" and the Umlaut of the German is so much easier to sing than the diphtong of the English version.

Oh, and "I've grown accustomed to her face" is "Ich bin gewöhnt an ihr Gesicht" - I'm used to her face.

The accent divide just doesn't exist in German nearly as much as it does in Great Britain, it certainly doesn't have the same social connotations. Eliza's talking in a very broad Berlin accent that slowly transforms into 'proper' German. It works quite well since there is the clichee of people with that accent having a big mouth and a cheeky attitude.
